Buscemi was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of bruising, swelling and bleeding around his left eye. His publicist said he was okay and appreciated the well-wishes. The publicist described him as “another victim of a random act of violence in the city”; that was the representative’s characterization, not an independently established motive. The Associated Press reported the initial account and the publicist’s statement on May 12, 2024.
