The Stephen King adaptation behind the Netflix headline is 11.22.63, an eight-episode limited series about an attempt to prevent John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Netflix Tudum said it was streaming on Netflix in its Jan. 10, 2026 article; that dated announcement does not confirm that it remains available in every country on Oct. 8, 2026. Its finite run makes it an appealing contained watch, though calling limited series the “best” binge is a matter of taste, not a proven rule.
Which Stephen King adaptation is coming to Netflix?
The headline most likely refers to 11.22.63. Netflix Tudum identified it as an eight-episode limited series and reported on Jan. 10, 2026 that it was streaming on Netflix. That is a dated availability statement, not a guarantee of current access in every territory. Check the Netflix catalog in your country before planning a watch.

Netflix’s Jan. 7, 2026 guide to Stephen King films and series on the service is also a snapshot rather than a lasting catalog promise: Netflix Tudum’s dated King guide. Stephen King’s official television works list separately identifies 11/22/63 as a television work: Stephen King’s television works.
What is 11.22.63 about?
Jake Epping, an English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, is drawn into a mission to stop JFK’s assassination after diner owner Al Templeton tells him that a closet in the diner leads to 1960. Al has been trying to alter history; after Al dies, Jake takes up the attempt. Netflix frames the premise around the risks and consequences of changing the past.
#1 Best Overall
The setup combines time-travel science fiction with historical suspense and drama. The central tension is not only whether Jake can prevent the assassination, but what changing the past may cost.
Why the limited-series format suits this story
Netflix describes the adaptation as eight episodes. That gives viewers a finite commitment and a natural stopping point, rather than an open-ended series with an unknown run. It can work well as a weekend watch or as a few episodes at a time, depending on your pace.
Rank #2
That is a practical case for this particular binge, not proof that limited series are universally better. The available sources establish the episode count and premise, but do not provide comparative viewing data or evidence that the show is objectively underrated. Whether it earns that label is a judgment about how much you enjoy its mix of speculative history, thriller plotting, and character drama.
How the series connects to Stephen King’s novel
11.22.63 adapts King’s 2011 novel 11/22/63. Netflix credits J.J. Abrams with the television adaptation. The series and novel are distinct ways to experience the story: the book is the source work, not a means of streaming the show. Readers curious about the premise can start with King’s novel; viewers can look for the series in their local Netflix catalog.

- 11.22.63
Who should try it?
- Choose it if you want a finite, eight-episode story built around time travel, a historical turning point, and the consequences of interference.
- Go in with the right expectation if you are looking specifically for science fiction: the premise is speculative, but the story also leans on suspense and drama.
- Check local availability first if Netflix is your intended viewing option. The Jan. 10, 2026 announcement does not establish the catalog status for your country on Oct. 8, 2026.
Cast and credits
James Franco plays Jake Epping, and Chris Cooper plays Al Templeton. Netflix Tudum also names Sarah Gadon, Lucy Fry, Daniel Webber, George MacKay, Cherry Jones, T.R. Abrams, according to Netflix Tudum’s Jan. 10, 2026 article.
