Stephen and Ayesha Curry met as teenagers in Charlotte in 2003, but they did not start dating then. They reconnected in Los Angeles in 2008, went on their first date, became engaged in 2010 and married in 2011. Their family later grew to four children, with Caius Chai born in May 2024.
2003: They meet as teenagers in Charlotte
Stephen and Ayesha met in a church youth group in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ayesha was 14 and Stephen was 15. They became friends, not a couple. Ayesha later recalled that Stephen was the cute, popular boy at church and that she assumed he might not be for her. She summed up that period to Entertainment Tonight: “We were just kids.” Entertainment Tonight’s timeline recounts her recollection.
2008: They reconnect and go on their first date
Five years later, they crossed paths again in Los Angeles. Stephen was there for the ESPYs while playing for Davidson College, and Ayesha was pursuing acting and modeling. Their adult reconnection led to a romance; it was not the start of their friendship or their first meeting.
The Hollywood Boulevard date
Ayesha has recalled picking Stephen up in her 1998 Astro van for a date on Hollywood Boulevard. They visited Madame Tussauds and had chai lattes. The Knot attributes those details to her 2019 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The Knot’s relationship timeline covers the date alongside later milestones.

July 2010: Stephen proposes
Stephen proposed in the driveway of Ayesha’s parents’ home, the place where they had shared their first kiss. He later recalled making it seem as though they were heading to a family cookout. The proposal brought their relationship to the next milestone after about two years of dating, according to The Knot.
July 30, 2011: They marry in Charlotte
The couple married at their childhood church in Charlotte, North Carolina. BET reported that about 400 guests attended; that is a reported event detail, not a measure of the couple’s relationship. The wedding date is also recorded in BET’s timeline.

2012–2018: Their first three children are born
Stephen and Ayesha’s family grew with the arrival of three children:
- July 19, 2012: Riley Elizabeth, their first child.
- July 10, 2015: Ryan Carson, their second daughter.
- July 2, 2018: Canon W. Jack, their third child and first son.

September 2021: They renew their vows
To mark their 10th wedding anniversary, Stephen and Ayesha renewed their vows in an intimate ceremony. The Knot reports the renewal as part of its account of their relationship milestones.
May 11, 2024: Caius Chai is born
Their fourth child, Caius Chai, was born early on May 11, 2024. The family announced they were settling in as a family of six. The birth is covered in Entertainment Tonight’s timeline; a 2026 Us Weekly timeline update also reflects the four-child family milestone.

Ayesha has emphasized their friendship and communication when speaking about their relationship: “Having that friendship first is so important, that foundation of communication and openness and being able to talk to each other and come to each other with whatever it is that’s going on.” That is her personal description, rather than an independent account of the couple’s private life. Entertainment Tonight attributes the quote to her.
