That premise makes it a relationship-centered horror story, not necessarily a haunted-house movie: Hulu’s official synopsis does not specify a haunted house or explain how the threat works. The available official information also does not establish whether the film is smartly constructed or slow-paced, so those judgments require seeing the film rather than relying on its listing.
What is Stay about?
Kiara and Miles are facing the end of their marriage when supernatural forces put their lives at risk. Hulu’s synopsis frames the conflict as a shift from fighting each other to fighting for survival, and concludes: “To survive, they must conquer darkness with love.” That points to a blend of relationship drama and supernatural peril rather than a premise built solely around an eerie building.

Hulu’s September 29, 2025 announcement describes Kiara as a PhD author of African spirituality and Miles as a former MMA fighter. Those details suggest two characters with distinct perspectives and capabilities, but the official synopsis does not explain how their backgrounds shape the supernatural conflict.
Is it really a haunted-house horror film?
Hulu categorizes Stay with romance, horror, thriller, and Black Stories labels. Its synopsis confirms supernatural forces but does not identify the setting as a haunted house or describe the threat’s mechanics. “Haunted house” may be a useful review angle if the film’s actual locations and events support it, but it is not established by the official description alone.

#1 Best Overall
The distinction matters to expectations: the confirmed setup centers on a couple and their threatened marriage. The listing supports calling the film supernatural horror with relationship stakes; it does not, by itself, promise a conventional haunted-attraction story.
Does the film earn “smart” or “slow-paced”?
Those are critical judgments, not facts established by Hulu’s listing or announcement. To call the film smart, a review would need to show how its supernatural device develops the marriage story, whether the characters’ decisions make sense, and whether the ending earns its emotional stakes. To call it slow-paced, a review would need to identify where tension or plot development pauses and whether the eventual payoff justifies that build-up.

- Let the games begin! Own the genre-defining Saw horror series in all its grisly glory. Five-disc set includes: Saw (2004), Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009), Saw: The Final Chapter (2010) and Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (2010).
- Genre: Horror
Without a verified account of the film’s scenes, those verdicts would be guesswork. The premise does offer a potentially productive tension—relationship conflict colliding with a threat that requires cooperation—but a premise alone cannot show whether the execution is thoughtful, drawn out, or effective.
Cast, director, runtime, and rating
Jas Summers directed Stay. Hulu’s listing names Megalyn Echikunwoke, Mo McRae, Dominic Stephens, Brandon Firla, and Patrick Cloud among the cast. Apple TV lists the film at 1 hour 24 minutes and rates it TV-MA; those details are Apple TV listing metadata, not Hulu’s runtime or rating information.
Where can you watch Stay?
Hulu announced that Stay would begin streaming on October 8, 2025, on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. Hulu currently lists the movie in its catalog. Availability and access terms can vary by location and over time, so check the service’s current listing for your region.
