StarWars.com’s official Star Wars Jack-O’-Lantern Stencils collection (published October 21, 2017) includes printable patterns for Porgs, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, a Stormtrooper, Darth Vader, a TIE fighter, an X-wing, Darth Maul, BB-8 and the Star Wars logo. Print a pattern, transfer its lines to a pumpkin, then carve—always with adult supervision.
Which Star Wars pumpkin stencils are available?
The official collection presents character, droid, vehicle and logo designs rather than a ranked difficulty system. Choose by the kind of image you want and by how much fine detail you are comfortable transferring and cutting.

The collection is an October 2017 StarWars.com publication, so confirm that the individual printables still load on the page when you use them. A separate StarWars.com Andor project, published October 10, 2022, demonstrates the same basic transfer method with a themed symbol.
What you need
- A pumpkin sized for the printed pattern
- Newspaper or paper bags to protect the work surface
- Printed stencil, scissors and tape
- Pumpkin-carving tools
- A pushpin for transferring the outline
- A red LED light or battery-powered candle
StarWars.com’s Chewbacca-and-Porg project also mentions an optional hobby knife for precision, carbon paper, paint and brushes, and toothpicks. Those extras are not required for a straightforward stencil-and-carve project. Battery-operated tea lights are an optional lighting choice.

How to transfer and carve a Star Wars stencil

Prepare the workspace
Cover the table or floor with newspaper or paper bags. Keep the carving area clear and have an adult supervise the activity.

Open and hollow the pumpkin
Cut an opening, remove the seeds and scrape out loose strands. A reasonably even interior makes the design easier to illuminate.

Print and trim the template
Print the selected design. If the pumpkin is small, scale the print down. Cut around the stencil, leaving about an inch of paper margin so it can be taped securely.

Fit the paper to the curve
Place the stencil where you want the image. Tape it in position, folding or gently creasing the paper so it follows the pumpkin’s curved surface.

Mark the outline
Use a pushpin to prick through every stencil line. The Andor tutorial says to keep the dots no more than a centimeter apart; closer pinholes make complicated lines easier to follow.

Remove the paper
Peel the template away carefully, leaving the dotted outline visible. If a section is hard to read, reconnect the marks with a pencil or washable marker.

Carve from the center outward
Follow the transferred marks with pumpkin-carving tools. Working from the center outward helps protect nearby sections. Support thin areas rather than forcing the blade through them.

Light the finished pumpkin
Use a red LED light or another battery-powered candle. Battery lighting avoids an open flame; if you use any candle, never leave it unattended.

How to make the stencil easier to carve
Preserve bridges and islands
Before cutting, identify pieces that must remain attached—such as the inside of a letter, a helmet detail or a vehicle wing. Keep a strip of pumpkin between adjacent openings instead of cutting away every marked line.

Match detail to pumpkin size
A large pumpkin gives you more room for facial lines, lettering and small vehicle components. On a small pumpkin, reduce the print and simplify or omit marks that are too close together.
Use the right tool for each cut
Use a pumpkin saw for the main openings and a smaller precision tool only where the pattern demands it. The optional hobby knife mentioned in StarWars.com’s Chewbacca-and-Porg project is an accessory, not a requirement.
Test the lighting
Place the LED inside before finalizing narrow cuts. A design that looks clear in daylight may need wider openings or a brighter battery light to show its silhouette at night.

Safety checklist for a Star Wars jack-o’-lantern
- An adult should supervise printing, transferring and every cutting step; StarWars.com gives this instruction on both its stencil collection and Andor tutorial.
- Cut away from hands and body, and keep fingers outside the tool’s path.
- Use a stable, dry surface and pause if the pumpkin slips.
- Do not leave a candle unattended. Battery-powered LED lights are the safer practical option for display.
- Keep carved pumpkins and tools away from young children and pets.
Choosing a design when you are unsure
For a bold first project, select the design with the clearest silhouette and the fewest narrow interior gaps on the printed page. Faces and logos can be immediately recognizable but may contain small lines; vehicles reward careful spacing; Porgs and BB-8 offer rounded forms that can be adapted to the pumpkin’s size. The official pages do not assign skill levels, so inspect the actual pattern rather than relying on an assumed ranking.
