A February 2026 secondary report says the show missed Nielsen’s streaming top 10 in its premiere week and attributes a first-eight-days estimate of 2.1 million viewers to Luminate. Those are separate measures, and neither is a public Nielsen total for the series.
What the early ratings signals show
The available figures point to different things: a reported chart result, a secondhand estimate of viewers, and opt-in reactions on a review site. They should not be treated as interchangeable evidence of either viewing volume or overall reception.
| Signal | What is reported | What it can—and cannot—show |
|---|---|---|
| Nielsen streaming rankings | Cancelled Sci Fi reported on February 18, 2026 that the series did not enter Nielsen’s streaming rankings for its premiere week. | It indicates the title was outside the published top 10 for that measurement window. It does not establish zero viewers or a specific audience total. The report is secondary; a primary Nielsen title-level chart record is not available in the cited material. |
| Luminate-attributed estimate | The same report attributes 2.1 million viewers in the first eight days to Luminate. | This is a secondary-reported estimate, not Nielsen data or a Paramount-reported figure. The original Luminate report and the estimate’s exact methodology and denominator are not established here; it is not a total-season figure. |
| Rotten Tomatoes audience ratings | The season page showed a 52% audience score from 2,500+ ratings and an average audience rating of 2.8 out of 5 when accessed October 8, 2026. | These are opt-in ratings from platform users, not a count of viewers or a representative survey. Scores and rating counts can change. |
Did the series make Nielsen’s streaming top 10?
According to Cancelled Sci Fi’s February 18, 2026 report, no: Starfleet Academy did not appear in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for its premiere week. That is a report about chart presence, not a public title-level Nielsen audience total. A top-10 list only identifies the titles that make the list in its measurement window; missing it does not reveal how many people watched a show below that cutoff.
What does the 2.1 million figure measure?
The 2.1 million figure is described by Cancelled Sci Fi as a Luminate estimate of viewers during the series’ first eight days. The attribution matters: this is not a Nielsen figure, and it should not be presented as the show’s total audience, season viewership, or an official Paramount number. The original Luminate publication was not surfaced, so the estimate’s precise method and denominator cannot be confirmed from the cited reporting.

What the Rotten Tomatoes score means
Rotten Tomatoes’ season-one page displayed a 52% audience score, 2,500+ ratings, and a 2.8-out-of-5 average when accessed October 8, 2026. These numbers describe the reactions of users who chose to rate the series on that platform. They do not measure how many people watched, and they should not be read as a representative poll of all viewers. Because the figures are dynamic, the snapshot may differ from the page’s current values.
Does the second-season renewal answer the ratings question?
No. Paramount announced a second-season renewal on October 19, 2024, while the first season was still in production. The series premiered on January 15, 2026, so the renewal came more than a year before viewers could respond to the season. It is a company decision, but not evidence that first-season ratings were strong or weak, and the announcement does not explain Paramount’s performance expectations.

The reported Nielsen top-10 miss is a limited sign about chart position in one premiere-week window. The Luminate-attributed figure offers a reported early audience estimate, but its underlying publication and methodology are not established here. Rotten Tomatoes reflects self-selected user sentiment rather than viewing behavior. Together, these measures raise reasonable questions about the show’s early reach and reception; they do not prove a ratings failure, subscriber decline, or cancellation risk.
