Released during San Diego Comic-Con on July 26, 2025, the footage showed the Academy campus in San Francisco and the U.S.S. Athena, a new starship that is also part of the campus.
What the first-look teaser revealed
Paramount+ announced the teaser on July 26, 2025, during its Star Trek presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. The studio described the U.S.S. Athena as an integral part of the Starfleet Academy campus. The teaser was a first look at the series, not its premiere. Paramount’s announcement later identified the footage’s central locations as the San Francisco campus and the Athena.
Holly Hunter is Chancellor Nahla Ake
Hunter plays Nahla Ake, a long-lived half-Lanthanite who serves two roles: Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and captain of the U.S.S. Athena. That makes her both an institutional leader and the captain of the ship closely tied to the campus.
Paul Giamatti plays an alien villain
Giamatti appears as Nus Braka, a recurring guest character who is part Klingon and part Tellarite. Paramount describes him as the season’s villain and says his ominous past is connected to a cadet. The announcement does not disclose further details about that connection or his plans.
