What Stan’s first look revealed
The March 13, 2024 reveal showed the four central characters together in a rooftop image: Charlie, Zeke, Hammer and Matt, played respectively by Joseph Zada, Aydan Calafiore, Zach Blampied and Joe Klocek. The first-look coverage also highlighted Pia Miranda as Anna. At the time, filming was underway in Western Australia. Star Observer reported on the announcement and images.
What is Invisible Boys about?
The drama is set in Geraldton, Western Australia, during the 2017 same-sex marriage plebiscite. After teenager Charlie is outed on social media following an encounter with a married man, he and three other boys form a friendship while confronting sexuality, desire, masculinity, family pressure and isolation in a regional community. Mental health is also among the series’ concerns. The premise is more than a coming-out story: it places the boys’ private lives within the political and social climate of the time. Stan’s series announcement describes the setting and story.

How the series adapts the novel
The series is based on Sheppard’s 2019 debut novel, but it is not a scene-for-scene retelling. Sheppard has said the television version keeps the novel’s mood, essence and emotional truth while changing some plot points and expanding female characters, including Bec, Rochelle and Sabrina. His contribution should be distinguished from the television authorship: Nicholas Verso is credited as creator, writer and director, while Sheppard is one of several writers on the series. Sheppard discussed the adaptation and its changes with Good Reading.
Rank #2
Verso’s writing collaborators are Allan Clarke, Declan Greene, Enoch Mailangi and Sheppard. Tania Chambers produced for Feisty Dame Productions and Verso for Asphodel Films; Stan executive producers are Cailah Scobie and Donna Chang. The novel draws on Sheppard’s experiences growing up gay in regional Western Australia, but its characters and plot are fictional, not a documentary account.
Where it was filmed
Production filmed in both Geraldton and Perth. Geraldton is the story’s setting, not merely a production location: Sheppard said filming there mattered to him, and local residents appeared as extras. The distinction matters because Perth’s role as a filming location does not make it the drama’s main setting. Feisty Dame Productions’ trailer announcement confirms the locations and premiere date.
Episodes, rating and viewer information
