Spoilers for the full season and finale. Guard 011, Kang No-eul, saves Player 246, Park Gyeong-seok, as an act of renewed hope and compassion. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk says that witnessing Gi-hun’s self-sacrifice reignites No-eul’s hope and will to live. Gyeong-seok’s desperate effort to return to his sick daughter gives her choice an additional emotional resonance—but the story does not explicitly confirm that this parental connection is her stated motive.
Who are Guard 11 and Player 246?
Guard 011 is Kang No-eul, played by Park Gyu-young. Player 246 is Park Gyeong-seok, played by Lee Jin-uk. Netflix’s Season 3 guide identifies the cast and characters; its finale explanation details their fates.
What does No-eul do to save him?
No-eul arranges Gyeong-seok’s escape from the island through a calculated deception. Netflix’s ending account says she fakes identities, kills her superior, and sets fire to the records room. Gyeong-seok is rescued before his pursuers can catch him.
He is alive six months later. In the epilogue, he draws portraits at an amusement park with his daughter, Na-yeon, who appears healthy. The rescue is therefore not an ambiguous near-escape: Gyeong-seok survives the island and reunites with his child.

What is the real reason No-eul helps him?
The creator’s stated explanation: Gi-hun’s sacrifice gives her hope
Hwang Dong-hyuk identifies Gi-hun’s ultimate act of self-sacrifice as the emotional turning point for No-eul. In Netflix Tudum’s ending explanation, he says: “A flicker of hope and pull towards life reignites within No-eul. I wanted to show her rising again, reclaiming her will to live, and giving life another shot.”
That is the clearest stated thematic reason for her change. No-eul has been drifting toward death; seeing Gi-hun choose to protect another person brings back the possibility of choosing life herself. Saving Gyeong-seok is consistent with that renewed resolve: instead of accepting the game’s treatment of people as disposable, she risks herself to protect one.

The parental connection is powerful, but implied
Gyeong-seok is trying to get back to Na-yeon, who is sick during the events described in TIME’s recap of the finale. No-eul, meanwhile, defected from North Korea and left her husband and daughter behind; Netflix’s ending account also mentions a possible sighting of her daughter in China. Their separation gives her decision to help a father fighting to reach his child particular emotional weight.
That connection is a reasoned reading of the story, not a confirmed direct explanation from Hwang. The available commentary does not say that No-eul saves Gyeong-seok specifically because he is a father. The careful answer is that Gi-hun’s sacrifice is the stated spark for No-eul’s renewed will to live, while Gyeong-seok’s devotion to his daughter plausibly deepens her empathy.

How the escape connects to the island search
TIME’s recap links Gyeong-seok’s rescue to events that allow Jun-ho and the Coast Guard to find the island. That places his escape within the wider chain of events around the search, but it does not establish that his rescue alone explains the entire investigation.
