Spotify announced a Premium price update on January 15, 2026, and its U.S. pricing page displayed Individual at $12.99 per month when checked on October 8, 2026. Spotify’s official announcement and pricing page do not confirm a further increase after that update. If you have seen a report of another possible rise, treat it as a report—not a confirmed change—and check the email and account page Spotify provides for your subscription.
What Spotify Premium costs in the U.S.
Spotify’s U.S. pricing page, checked October 8, 2026, showed these recurring monthly prices. A promotion for a new customer can change the initial billing period; it does not necessarily change the recurring price.

These are U.S. prices, not a global price list. Spotify’s January 15 announcement said subscribers in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia would receive an email over the following month explaining what the change meant for their subscriptions. Prices and plan availability may vary by country; use Spotify’s U.S. Premium page for U.S. plan details and your local page for another market.
Has Spotify confirmed another increase?
The official sources establish the January 2026 update and the U.S. prices displayed on October 8, 2026. They do not establish that Spotify announced a later increase. The title’s “looks to” framing should therefore be read as a possibility or report, not as confirmation of a new charge. For your own subscription, Spotify’s email and account details are more useful than a general prediction.

How to check when a new price would apply
Spotify says it emails subscribers about a price change and provides a one-month grace period to cancel before the new price takes effect. Trial users get one month at the original price after the trial ends before the new price applies. The effective date is subscriber-specific, so check the notice sent to the email address on the account.
- Open your Spotify account page and check the subscription and next billing date.
- Find Spotify’s price-change email and note the date it says the new price will apply to your account.
- If you plan to cancel or switch plans, do so before the next billing date. Spotify says billing dates depend on when the subscription began.

How to compare plans without overlooking eligibility
Compare plans in the same country and on the same billing basis. Start with the recurring price after any introductory offer, then consider how many accounts you need, whether the household rules fit, which features matter to you, and when a change would begin. Duo and Family are not interchangeable household plans: both require residents of the same address, while Family accommodates up to six family members and includes parental controls. Student is for verified eligible students.
Spotify says subscribers can switch to another plan for which they qualify or use its free, ad-supported service. The free service retains access to saved tracks, playlists, and podcasts. Gift cards can also be redeemed toward Premium Individual, including cards purchased at a lower price, but Spotify does not say they apply to Duo, Family, or Student. A gift card is therefore not a general discount for every plan.

Spotify’s explanation for changing prices
In its January 15, 2026 announcement, Spotify said: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” That is Spotify’s rationale; it does not establish that every subscriber agrees with the company’s assessment of value.
At Spotify’s May 21, 2026 Investor Day, Co-CEO Alex Norström described pricing as part of retention: “Even our pricing is a retention story. We’ve raised prices multiple times with minimal churn because users see the value and stick around.” This is the company’s position, not an independent measure of how subscribers feel about price increases.

Norström and Co-CEO Gustav Söderström also presented Spotify’s wider business context at the event: the company reported 18% currency-neutral revenue CAGR, reaching €17 billion in 2025; gross margin of 32% in 2025, up from 25% in 2022; 293 million subscribers; and a 10% global increase in streaming hours per subscriber from 2021 to 2025. These are figures in Spotify’s May 2026 executive remarks, not independently verified here. Söderström said Spotify’s “opportunity to grow goes well beyond pricing”; that statement describes the company’s broader strategy but does not predict what subscription prices will do next.
