Choose Spotify if personalized discovery, playlists and sharing matter most. Choose Apple Music if you use Apple devices, want a strong lossless and spatial-audio package, or value Apple Music Classical. Choose YouTube Music if you often play music videos, live performances, covers or remixes—and consider YouTube Premium if you also want ad-free regular YouTube.
There is no universal winner: the right service depends on what you listen to, which devices you use and whether you already pay for a bundle. This comparison focuses on US plans and features documented by the services; check the checkout page for your current price because billing channel, promotions and plan availability can change the amount.

It is a particularly practical choice for people who move among iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, speakers and cars. Spotify advertises support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and in-car experiences, while Spotify Connect supports playback on compatible devices. Its broad presence can make handoff between devices simpler than choosing a service primarily for one hardware ecosystem. Spotify Premium
Audio, podcasts and audiobooks
Spotify’s US Premium pages advertise lossless playback up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz. Spotify Support describes availability in mobile, desktop and tablet apps and on compatible Spotify Connect devices. Treat that as a feature to verify on your own account: market, account eligibility, app version, track and playback hardware can matter. It does not establish that every track or device plays losslessly. Spotify Premium benefits
Spotify also has the broadest integrated spoken-word proposition of these three services, with podcasts and audiobook listening for eligible Premium subscribers in supported markets. Included audiobook hours are plan-specific and may apply to the plan manager rather than every member. Podcast advertisements or creator-read promotions can still appear. Free tier and plans
Spotify’s free tier makes it a contender if you do not want to subscribe, but free playback rules—including ads, skips, on-demand controls and mobile behavior—can vary by market and change over time. Check the current app experience if one of those limits would be a deal-breaker. Paid plans include Individual, Student, Duo and Family; the Family plan is for up to six accounts at the same address. Student benefits may include Hulu, subject to eligibility. Spotify Premium plan benefits

Apple Music: the best fit for Apple integration and audio options
Apple devices, library and classical music
Apple Music is a strong fit if you already use an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod or Siri and want music to sit naturally in that environment. It is also available on Android and other platforms, so owning Apple hardware is not a requirement. Its album- and artist-oriented organization can suit listeners who prefer maintaining a considered music library over a more social, playlist-led experience.
Apple advertises a catalog of more than 100 million songs and includes Apple Music Classical with eligible Individual, Student and Family plans. The Student plan shown on Apple’s US page is $6.99 per month. Apple Music can also be part of Apple One, which may be a better fit if you already use the other included Apple services; it is not automatically a saving if you do not. Apple Music Apple One
Lossless, hi-res and Dolby Atmos
Apple’s technical audio package is the clearest choice for listeners seeking multiple high-resolution options: the service offers lossless audio across its catalog, including hi-res lossless settings, and Dolby Atmos for supported songs and devices. You can enable lossless in Music settings. These formats are not automatic guarantees of a better listening experience: hi-res playback may require suitable wired hardware and a DAC, while Bluetooth generally cannot carry the original lossless signal end-to-end. A mix’s mastering can matter more than its format label, and not everyone prefers a Dolby Atmos version.
Lossless and hi-res files can use substantially more mobile data and device storage. If you mostly listen over Bluetooth in a noisy commute or gym, Apple’s headline audio advantage may have little practical effect; compare tracks at matched volume on the equipment you actually use. Lyrics, karaoke and paid-service trade-off
Apple Music offers lyrics, music videos and Apple Music Sing on supported songs and devices. Its main trade-off for budget-conscious listeners is that it is principally a paid subscription rather than a full, permanent free on-demand service comparable to the ad-supported options from Spotify and YouTube Music.
YouTube Music: the best for video-linked and unusual versions
More than standard album releases
YouTube Music combines conventional releases with music videos, live performances, covers, remixes, DJ mixes and other YouTube-connected material. That makes it a useful place to look when a track is hard to find on traditional streaming services or when you want to move between audio and video. It is not accurate to treat its searchable universe as a directly comparable count of licensed albums and singles: the content types differ.
The same breadth can make its library less tidy. You may encounter duplicate uploads, inconsistent artist or album metadata, unofficial versions, variable sound quality or material that later disappears. An upload, live version and official album track are separate items, so saving or downloading one does not guarantee access to the others. YouTube Music features
Free listening and Premium
YouTube Music’s documented ad-supported tier offers on-demand playback for songs, podcasts and music videos, plus queueing, repeat and unlimited skipping; some podcast background-play and download functionality is also available in the described experience. Premium adds music without ads, background music playback, audio-only mode and music downloads. Rules can differ by content type and device, so check the current service terms for the feature you need. YouTube Music membership features YouTube Music Premium benefits

Music Premium or YouTube Premium?
YouTube Music Premium is the music subscription. YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music benefits as well as ad-free regular YouTube, background play and downloads for YouTube videos on supported devices. If you watch a lot of regular YouTube and would otherwise pay to remove its ads, compare the broader plan rather than buying music-only by default. Premium does not necessarily remove creator-embedded promotions or podcast promotions, and some content or live-event situations can differ. YouTube Premium YouTube Music Premium benefits
YouTube offers US individual annual/prepaid plans that are non-recurring and non-refundable; they are not available to current subscribers until the existing billing period ends after cancellation. Family plans can include the manager plus up to five other household members at the same residential address. Student memberships require higher-education verification through SheerID, annual re-verification and are limited to up to four consecutive years where available. Which service wins the head-to-head comparisons?
Spotify vs. Apple Music
Pick Spotify if discovery, sharing, collaborative playlists and cross-device handoff are more important to you than deep Apple integration. Pick Apple Music if your devices and other services are Apple-centered, you maintain a music library, or lossless, hi-res and Dolby Atmos options are priorities. Spotify’s advertised lossless feature narrows a former technical distinction, but its availability and hardware compatibility should be checked against your setup before you choose on sound alone.
Spotify vs. YouTube Music
Pick Spotify for a more conventional playlist and social ecosystem, along with integrated podcast and eligible audiobook listening. Pick YouTube Music if video, live, cover and remix versions are a regular part of how you listen. The trade-off is library consistency: Spotify is generally the cleaner choice for organized playlists and standard releases, while YouTube Music exposes a more varied but less uniform pool of material.
Best Value
- Block the World, Keep the Music: Four built-in mics work together to filter out background noise — whether you're in a packed office, on a crowded commute, or moving through a busy street — so every beat comes through clean and clear. (Not available in AUX-in mode.)
- Two Ways to Hear More: BassUp technology delivers deep, punchy bass and crisp highs in wireless mode — then step it up further by plugging in the included AUX cable to unlock Hi‑Res certified audio for studio-level clarity.
- 40 Hours. 5-Minute Top-Up: With ANC on, a single charge keeps you listening through days of commutes and long-haul flights. Running low? Just 5 minutes plugged in gives you 4 more hours — so you're never stuck waiting.
- Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
Apple Music vs. YouTube Music
Pick Apple Music for Apple-device integration, traditional album organization, Apple Music Classical and the most fully specified lossless options among these services. Pick YouTube Music if finding alternate versions and watching music videos matters more than a carefully organized library or documented lossless formats.

- Best all-round default: Spotify, especially for people who listen across platforms and want suggestions, playlists and sharing.
- Best for an Apple household: Apple Music, particularly when Apple One or Apple Music Classical adds value.
- Best for Android and Google-connected listening: YouTube Music for Google Cast and YouTube-centered habits; Spotify is also a strong option for people mixing many device brands.
- Best audio-quality package: Apple Music for lossless, hi-res lossless and supported Dolby Atmos content. Spotify is worth considering if its lossless feature is available on your account and devices.
- Best for personalized music discovery: Spotify for listeners who want algorithmic mixes, playlist discovery and social sharing.
- Best for videos, covers, live recordings and remixes: YouTube Music, accepting that versions and metadata may be inconsistent.
- Best free starting point: Spotify for playlists and conventional discovery, or YouTube Music for video and alternate versions. Compare the current restrictions in your region before relying on either.
- Best for music plus spoken word: Spotify for podcasts and eligible audiobook access, subject to plan and market limits.
- Best for students: Compare verified current prices, eligibility and extras at checkout. Apple lists its US Student Plan at $6.99 per month; Spotify may include Hulu subject to eligibility; YouTube uses student verification and annual re-verification.
- Best for a household already paying for YouTube: YouTube Premium may combine regular YouTube benefits with YouTube Music more usefully than a music-only subscription.
- Best for a household considering Apple services: Compare Apple One only if the household will use its additional included services.
Family and Duo plan economics depend on who qualifies and actually shares the account. Spotify’s Family plan and YouTube’s family plan have same-address conditions; YouTube specifies the manager plus up to five other household members. How to choose in five minutes
- Would ad-free regular YouTube matter to you? If yes, compare YouTube Premium, which includes YouTube Music benefits, with the cost of separate services.
- Do you mainly use Apple devices or already pay for Apple One? If yes, start with Apple Music and check whether its library, Classical and audio options fit.
- Do you want discovery, playlists and social listening? If yes, start with Spotify.
- Do you regularly seek music videos, live performances, covers or unofficial remixes? If yes, try YouTube Music and see whether its less consistent catalog works for you.
- Is lossless or hi-res a deciding factor? Start with Apple Music; also check whether Spotify lossless is available on your account, app and playback devices. Consider your headphones, connection and listening environment before paying for a feature you may not hear.
- Are you unwilling to pay? Compare Spotify and YouTube Music’s current free-tier behavior on the device you use most.
Test before switching or committing
A short practical trial can reveal more than a feature list. Use the same listening routine on each candidate: a familiar album, several favorite artists, one regional or alternate release, a playlist and a commute or car session. For sound comparisons, use the same equipment and match volume; a louder version can seem better even when it is not.
- Check that favorite artists, albums, regional releases, remixes and live versions are actually available in your country.
- Try the service on the devices that matter: phone, desktop, car, speaker and TV. Availability and features differ by device; YouTube Music’s offline and background features are limited to supported mobile apps, while TV and console access uses the regular YouTube app. YouTube Music supported devices
- Download music before a flight or commute and check the storage use. These are subscription licenses, not permanent purchases: access to subscription downloads ends when the subscription ends, and offline devices may need periodic service validation.
- For YouTube Music, downloaded music is documented as available for up to 30 days without an internet connection; Smart Downloads can automatically save content based on listening history. YouTube Music downloads and Smart Downloads
- Try recommendations for several days before judging whether the service understands your taste.
- Confirm that everyone on a family or student plan meets the provider’s current eligibility rules before moving the household.
Moving playlists without losing track of what matters
Playlist migration services can usually match many tracks, but a match is not always the same recording or release. Regional editions, compilations, remixes, local files, unreleased tracks, user uploads and spelling or metadata differences can fail to transfer or map to a different version. Review the destination playlists before canceling your old service, especially if they contain rare or personally important tracks.
