On January 15, 2026, Spotify announced that Premium subscribers in the United States, Estonia and Latvia would be notified about a price update. Spotify said it would email affected subscribers over the following month. In the U.S., Axios reported that Premium Individual would rise from $12 to $13 per month; Spotify’s announcement itself did not publish a full plan-by-plan price list.
Is your Spotify price going up?
It depends on your market, plan and account. Spotify’s January 15, 2026 announcement named the United States, Estonia and Latvia. It did not publish every affected plan or its new price. Spotify directed new subscribers to the Premium pricing available locally, so check the price shown for your country and the email sent to your account.

Axios reported that the U.S. Premium Individual plan would change from $12 to $13 a month. That figure is Axios’s report, not a plan-by-plan price table in Spotify’s newsroom announcement. The announcement does not establish prices for other U.S. plans or for Estonia and Latvia.
When will you be charged the new price?
Spotify says it will email subscribers whose plan price is changing. Its U.S. support page describes a one-month grace period in which a subscriber can cancel before the new price takes effect. If you are on a trial offer, Spotify says you will receive one month at the original price after the trial ends before the new price applies.

The timing for an individual account depends on its billing date. Check the message sent to your Spotify account and your billing details rather than assuming the announcement date is your first day at the new rate. For the U.S. policy, see Spotify Support’s price-change guidance.
What if you do not want to pay the new price?
Spotify says you can cancel before your next billing date. You can continue listening on its free, ad-supported service, and your saved tracks, playlists and podcasts remain in your account. Review the cancellation date shown for your subscription so you act before the next charge.

Spotify says gift cards can be redeemed only for Premium Individual. That restriction does not make a gift card a general way around a price increase, and availability depends on the market.
How this differs from Spotify’s August 2025 price update
Spotify issued a separate pricing notice on August 4, 2025, covering markets across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Those are broad regions, not a list or count of countries. The notice said impacted Premium subscribers would receive an email over the following month, but did not list every country or price in its announcement text.

That earlier, multi-region update should not be confused with the January 2026 announcement, which specifically named the United States, Estonia and Latvia. Read the two announcements separately: Spotify’s August 2025 notice and Spotify’s January 2026 notice.
How to compare Spotify with other music services
Spotify’s 2025 annual filing says it adapts plan prices to local purchasing power, general cost levels and willingness to pay. A useful comparison therefore starts with offers in your own country, not with old prices quoted for another market.

- Monthly cost: compare the current local price for the plan you would actually use.
- Plan eligibility: check whether you qualify for Individual, Student, Duo or Family, and whether household or student requirements apply.
- Included features: compare the audio features included in each plan, not just the headline price.
- Playlist transition: account for the effort involved in moving saved playlists. The available sources do not establish current playlist-transfer terms, so check the services’ current policies before switching.
Spotify’s annual filing also discusses past competitor price changes; those historical figures are not a reliable guide to current offers. Verify prices and terms on each service’s local plan page.

At its May 21, 2026 Investor Day, Spotify Co-CEOs Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström said: “We’ve raised prices multiple times with minimal churn because users see the value and stick around.” This is Spotify’s own characterization of subscriber response, not an independently verified churn statistic.
