Spotify Premium music listening remains ad-free. Spotify rejected a rumor about adding ads to Premium music on April 8, 2025, and its U.S. Premium page still lists ad-free music listening as a benefit. That promise is about music playback—not a guarantee that every podcast, promotion, or other item in Spotify will be free of commercial messages.
What Spotify confirmed—and when
On April 8, 2025, Spotify said reports that it was putting ads into Premium music listening were false. MobileSyrup reported the statement the next day. This was a response to a rumor, not a new policy announcement in August 2026. Spotify’s U.S. Premium page continues to advertise “Ad-free music listening.”

For a subscriber playing ordinary music, the practical answer is straightforward: Premium is not supposed to insert the standard Spotify Free commercial breaks between songs. The confirmation does not establish that Spotify will never change any plan or advertising policy in the future.
What “ad-free” covers—and what it does not
The confirmed scope is Premium music listening. Do not treat that as a promise that every format or screen in the app contains no commercial messaging.

- Podcasts: An episode may include a host-read sponsor, a message built into the show, or advertising handled under podcast-specific arrangements. Whether a particular message can be skipped or removed depends on the show and its distribution; the available information does not establish a blanket rule that all podcasts are ad-free for Premium subscribers.
- Other content and app surfaces: Videos, audiobooks, artist or concert promotions, recommendations, and Spotify marketing are distinct from an audio ad inserted between songs. Their presence and presentation can vary; Spotify’s music-listening confirmation does not rule them all out.
A spoken sponsor message in a podcast, for example, is not by itself evidence that Spotify has started inserting Free-tier ads into Premium music playback. Secondary coverage discusses this distinction, but it should not be read as a universal policy for every show or placement.
Premium and Free: the relevant difference
Spotify’s U.S. plan page distinguishes paid Premium music from its free, ad-supported service. It also advertises offline listening, lossless music, and control over what plays next as Premium benefits. Free-tier playback controls and feature availability can vary by device and market, so there is no single restriction list that applies to every Free listener.

One plan-name distinction matters: Spotify lists Audiobooks Access separately and says its music experience uses Spotify’s free, ad-supported service. Audiobooks Access should not be mistaken for a full Premium music plan.
U.S. Premium plans and displayed prices
Spotify’s U.S. Premium page, as captured before August 18, 2026, displayed the following monthly prices. These are U.S. figures, not global prices; offers, eligibility, taxes, and later price changes may affect what an individual subscriber pays.

Discussion about possible higher-priced tiers and the wider streaming industry’s mix of subscriptions and advertising blurred three different things: Spotify’s advertising business, promotional tools or placements, and conventional music ads between tracks. Speculation about a future product is not confirmation that Spotify changed the existing Premium music experience. Spotify’s April 2025 response addressed that specific rumor; it did not settle every question about future tiers or advertising across other content.

If you hear an ad while you have Premium
- Identify what is playing. Check whether it is a song, podcast, audiobook, video, or spoken feature. A podcast sponsorship is different from an interruption between music tracks.
- Verify the account and plan. Make sure the app is signed into the account that has Premium and that the subscription is active.
- Check billing status. A payment problem, expired trial, app-store billing issue, or account mismatch may mean the account is no longer receiving Premium benefits.
- Test ordinary music playback. Try several tracks from an album or music playlist rather than using a podcast or video to test the ad-free music benefit.
- Restart or update the app. This can help rule out a temporary playback or account-state issue.
- Check Spotify support channels for a service or account issue. If standard music tracks are still interrupted by conventional third-party ads while the account visibly has active Premium, contact Spotify support.
What the confirmation does not promise
- It does not promise that every podcast, video, audiobook, recommendation, or app screen is free of commercial messages.
- It does not establish that all podcast sponsorships are removed by Premium.
- It does not guarantee that Spotify’s plans or policies will never change.
- It does not make U.S. pricing or plan terms universal across countries.
