Spotify’s original Playlist in a Bottle let listeners seal songs that captured their musical selves in 2023 and revisit them in 2024. That capsule can no longer be newly created: Spotify’s original creation window ended January 31, 2023, and its claim window ended January 31, 2024. Spotify later offered a separate 2024 capsule claim flow in January 2025. The reviewed sources do not confirm whether people can create or open a new capsule in 2026.
What Spotify’s Playlist in a Bottle was
Playlist in a Bottle was a digital, interactive Spotify experience—not a physical bottle or product. Users answered music-related prompts, chose a container design, and sealed their selections as a time capsule. Spotify described it as a way to capture who you were musically and revisit that version of yourself a year later. The launch announcement said the 2023 campaign was available in 27 markets and 18 languages; those figures describe the original campaign, not current availability. Spotify’s January 4, 2023 announcement explains the launch.

How the original 2023 capsule was created
These are the historical steps Spotify provided for the 2023 experience. They are not instructions for creating a capsule now: the original window has closed, and current 2026 availability is unverified.
- Update the Spotify app on an iOS or Android phone.
- On that mobile device, visit spotify.com/playlistinabottle.
- Choose a digital container design: a bottle, jean pocket, gumball machine, lunch box, or teddy bear.
- Answer the song prompts, including questions such as “A song that reminds you of your favorite person.”
- Seal the capsule digitally. Spotify said participants could also share a personalized social card.
The campaign was open to Free and Premium users, and Spotify closed capsule creation at the end of January 31, 2023. The company said participants would be able to return in January 2024.

How participants opened the 2023 capsule
On January 4, 2024, Spotify directed participants to visit the experience on mobile and select “Claim Your Playlist.” After claiming it, they could save and listen to the complete 2023 playlist. That claim window ran only through January 31, 2024. Spotify’s 2024 announcement also invited listeners to make another capsule for the following year.
What happened with 2024 capsules—and what is known about 2026
Spotify published a claim flow for 2024 capsules in January 2025. Its January 7, 2025 announcement said participants could claim and save that capsule through January 31, 2025. Two days later, a Spotify Community moderator clarified that the 2025 cycle would “only redeliver 2024 capsules.” That dated statement applies to the 2025 cycle; it does not establish that the feature was permanently discontinued or confirm what is available in 2026. The moderator’s accepted Community response is specific to that cycle.

If a capsule did not appear
When users reported missing 2023 capsules in 2024, a Spotify Community response listed incomplete creation, an error near completion, or a missing confirmation as possible explanations. The moderator said they could not determine the cause for each person, so these possibilities do not guarantee a diagnosis or recovery. The Community discussion about missing 2023 capsules provides that context.
