Yes. Jon Bernthal plays Frank Castle, the Punisher, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sony’s official FAQ describes Castle’s lethal, uncompromising approach as a source of conflict with Spider-Man before the two develop a volatile, unlikely alliance. The film has already been released and is available for home viewing.
What role does Jon Bernthal play?
Bernthal returns as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. Sony’s official FAQ describes Castle as a battle-scarred soldier and highly lethal vigilante. His brutal approach to justice puts him at odds with Spider-Man, whose methods differ sharply from Castle’s. Sony says their dynamic develops into a volatile big-brother/little-brother relationship, with Frank becoming an unlikely ally and perhaps Peter’s closest thing to a friend.
That characterization comes from the studio’s own description; it establishes the contrast and relationship Sony is promoting, but does not reveal how their partnership plays out scene by scene. Sony’s official film FAQ identifies the characters and outlines their dynamic. Disney’s Comic-Con recap also identifies Bernthal as Frank Castle / the Punisher.
How does the Punisher fit into the story?
Brand New Day continues Tom Holland’s Spider-Man story, with its events set four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, according to Sony. The studio’s premise puts Peter Parker in a world that no longer remembers him. He is fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man while MJ, Ned and his other old friends move on without him.

Sony’s synopsis says Peter’s isolation and the pressure of that life spark a change he may not be able to control. The transformation may also be necessary to stop a powerful, unseen threat to the city and the people he loves. Against that setup, Castle’s hard-edged approach gives the film a direct clash of methods: Peter’s responsibility as a hero meets Frank’s lethal version of justice. Sony’s synopsis closes with the line, “The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.” Read the official synopsis and credits.
Who else is in the film?

These official materials do not establish additional unannounced appearances or plot details.
Destin Daniel Cretton directs; Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the screenplay. Sony names Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O’Connor as producers, and credits Stan Lee and Steve Ditko as the Marvel comic-book creators on which the film is based.
