Spider-Man: Brand New Day is reported to bring Michael Mando back as Mac Gargan, the villain known as Scorpion. Sony’s official synopsis, however, describes an unnamed powerful threat; it does not identify Scorpion as the film’s sole or central villain.
Who is the ‘Better Call Saul’ star in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
It is Michael Mando, known to television audiences for Better Call Saul. Tom’s Guide reports that Mando will reprise Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion, the character he first played in Spider-Man: Homecoming (Tom’s Guide).
Sony’s official film page lists Mando among the cast but does not assign him a character there. The identification as Scorpion comes from entertainment reporting, not from Sony’s cast listing. GamesRadar also described a social post by Mando—a selfie with a scorpion tattoo and the word “Sting”—as a tease of his return. That post is a hint, not a plot announcement (GamesRadar).
Is Scorpion the movie’s main villain?
That has not been established by Sony’s published synopsis. Sony describes Peter Parker facing “a powerful villain no one can even see,” but does not name that threat. The official wording leaves open whether Scorpion is that villain, another antagonist, or part of a larger conflict. Calling him the film’s confirmed sole or central villain goes beyond the available official information.

What Sony has confirmed about the story and cast
Sony says Peter is fighting crime full-time in a world that no longer remembers him, while the pressure and isolation of that life are changing him. The studio describes Brand New Day as the fourth film featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man and places the story four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Sony’s FAQ lists Peter Parker/Spider-Man, MJ, Ned, Frank Castle/The Punisher, Jean Grey, Bruce Banner/Hulk, and William “Bill” Metzger among the main characters. It names Mando in the cast and Destin Daniel Cretton as director. Sony’s page does not provide a definitive list of every antagonist or clarify Scorpion’s role in the plot (Sony Pictures Entertainment).
What Michael Mando has said about Scorpion’s future
Mando has described the character’s possible development, telling GamesRadar: “Brand New Day is level one of this character’s potential, and he has at least two or three levels up from here, one of them being the ultimate form of Venom.” That is Mando’s view of what Scorpion could become, not confirmation that the film includes a Venom storyline or that a later appearance is planned (GamesRadar).
