Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse did not open on the weekend its original schedule pointed to: March 29, 2024. Sony Pictures Animation now lists the film for U.S. theaters on June 18, 2027, a date Sony confirmed in a 2026 announcement. Release schedules can change.
When does Beyond the Spider-Verse come out?
Sony Pictures Animation’s official film page lists Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse as “In theaters June 18, 2027.” Sony’s May 19, 2026 CinemaCon announcement specifies June 18, 2027 for U.S. theaters and says the worldwide theatrical release will follow in 2027. The date is subject to change.
Why was it supposed to be out this weekend?
The “this weekend” in the original headline refers to March 29, 2024, the film’s former planned U.S. release date. The headline’s source, ComicBook.com’s March 30, 2024 report, was published just after that weekend and reported that the film had been delayed. A contemporaneous Gizmodo account said Sony removed it from the 2024 slate and filled its former slot with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
What caused the delay?
Reports at the time described several contributing circumstances, rather than one definitive cause announced by Sony. They cited the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, which affected the ability to record voice performances on schedule, and reported concerns that the original timetable was too compressed for a production of this scale. Coverage also described production concerns after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. These are reported explanations, not a confirmed single-cause studio statement.
