Sony Pictures Animation currently lists Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for theaters on June 18, 2027. The reporting available as of October 2026 does not show a new delay or any negative schedule change, so the word “devastating” is not supported by the evidence. The date is a studio schedule, though, not a guarantee, and it is worth understanding what each source can and cannot tell you.
What Sony’s official listing says
Sony Pictures Animation’s official film page lists the release as June 18, 2027, for theaters. Sony’s news page points to a Variety CinemaCon first-look report dated April 13, 2026, which also gives June 18, 2027. Two independent-looking mentions of the same date in the same studio ecosystem are useful, but they are still the same underlying schedule, not separate confirmations.
Sony describes the story this way: Miles Morales is hunted by Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society and betrayed by friends, and he must find a way home while trying to reunite and protect his endangered family. The credits list Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson as directors; Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh as producers; and Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham as writers.
Is there evidence of a new delay?
No. The sources reviewed for this update report a date that is unchanged from the April 2026 CinemaCon coverage through the current Sony listing. The producer interviews from March and July 2026 describe progress, not a shift. A headline calling the update “devastating” would need a specific, documented negative change, such as a new date, a studio statement of postponement, or a cancelled campaign. None of those appear in the material reviewed.

That does not make the date firm. The film’s schedule has moved before, which is why fans remain cautious. Treat June 18, 2027 as Sony’s current announced date.
What the producers said in 2026
March 2026: TechRadar interview
In March 2026, Phil Lord and Chris Miller told TechRadar they were “very confident” the film would meet its June 18, 2027 date. Their answers were more guarded on specifics. Miller said, “We can’t really tell you that, but stay tuned,” and Lord added, “Soon. You’ll see something soon…ish.” Those lines reflect the producers’ view at the time of the interview, not a studio commitment about marketing beats.

July 2026: Empire interview, reported by GamesRadar
In July 2026, Miller spoke on The Empire Podcast, as reported by GamesRadar. He said, “We are deep, deep in it,” and described the team as “chugging away in the edit room with the team, and it’s coming together really well. It’s a lot of movie, and a lot to do.” Read this as a sign that the film is in late-stage post-production, not as a confirmed release calendar. Quotes are attributed to the interview and the outlet that reported them, not to a Sony press release.
What was shown at CinemaCon
TechRadar’s April 2026 CinemaCon report says the first footage was shown to attendees behind closed doors, and Sony made new still images public. That means the footage was seen by event attendees and described in press coverage. It is not a publicly available trailer, and readers should not expect the footage to be online in its CinemaCon form.

How to check the date yourself
- Open Sony Pictures Animation’s official website and find the page for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
- Confirm the theatrical date shown there. As of this update, it reads June 18, 2027.
- Compare it with any newer Sony news item. If a new date appears on the official page or in a Sony announcement, treat that as the update.
- Be cautious with interview quotes and with headlines that describe a change without linking to a studio statement.
Bottom line for readers
The current date is June 18, 2027. The reporting does not show a new delay, and the producers’ July 2026 comments describe the film as deep in edit. Keep the date in mind as Sony’s announced schedule, check the official film page for changes, and treat any “devastating” framing as unsupported until the studio itself confirms a negative change.
