In her 18 July 2025 review for Scroll.in, Udita Jhunjhunwala finds a thriller with strong ingredients that too often loses pace to a loose screenplay, extended fights and visual padding.
What is Special Ops 2.0 about?
This Hindi sequel to Neeraj Pandey’s espionage series brings Kay Kay Menon back as Himmat Singh, a senior operative who works with a hand-picked team. The season shifts beyond conventional field operations toward cyberwarfare, AI conspiracies, financial fraud and political-corporate collusion.

The opening episode sets up the kidnapping of tech entrepreneur Bhargava, connected to a classified government project, and an attack on a RAW officer who had been watching him. Himmat and his team must find Bhargava and secure his return. Jhunjhunwala sees potential in the setup, but says Bhargava remains passive despite being introduced as a technological genius.
Does the seven-day countdown create suspense?
The story spans seven days across seven episodes, but the countdown does not consistently create the urgency its premise promises. The first episode is a sprawling, roughly hour-long introduction, and the pacing remains a central weakness in the review’s assessment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches#1 Best Overall
Jhunjhunwala points to repeated vehicle movements, long walking shots and drone views that add little to the story. The fight scenes, too, are described as long and excessive. Rather than intensifying the threat, these stretches can interrupt it, leaving the screenplay feeling loose and padded.
How are the performances?
Kay Kay Menon anchors the season
Menon is the strongest reason to stay with the series in Jhunjhunwala’s view. His Himmat is intelligent, resolute and quick-thinking, but also emotionally vulnerable as he approaches retirement and faces personal upheaval. That combination gives the character dimension amid the season’s many moving parts.

The ensemble has mixed results
Returning cast members include Karan Tacker, Muzzamil Ibrahim, Saiyami Kher, Shikha Talsania, Vinay Pathak, Parmeet Sethi, Kali Prasad Mukherjee, Gautami Kapoor and Revathi Pillai. New additions named in the review include Tahir Raj Bhasin, Prakash Raj and Arif Zakaria.
Prakash Raj’s bureaucrat is one of the stronger supporting performances. Bhasin’s antagonist, by contrast, is underplayed, and the character’s backstory lacks punch, according to the review. The broader cast gives the season support, but does not resolve its uneven focus.
Rank #3
Is Special Ops 2.0 worth watching?
It may suit viewers who want Menon’s take on Himmat Singh and are interested in an espionage story that moves into cyber-threat territory. Its ambition and senior cast give it a foundation, but viewers seeking consistently taut suspense may find the drawn-out setup, visual filler and oversized action sequences frustrating.
Jhunjhunwala’s verdict is mixed: the series has worthwhile elements, yet it often resists momentum. The review says Special Ops 2.0 is out on JioHotstar; streaming availability can vary by country and change over time, so check the service in your territory.
