The list is an editorial selection, not an official club ranking: available sources do not measure their fame against one another, and the evidence for their support varies.
Who are Southampton FC’s five famous supporters?
These five names appear in club coverage or publications’ lists of celebrity Saints supporters. The order below is not a ranking.
- Rishi Sunak — ITV reported in April 2024 that Sunak called himself a “massive Saints fan” while discussing Southampton’s promotion hopes. Sky News also reported that he attended a Southampton match in 2023. ITV News Meridian reported his comments; Sky News reported his match attendance.
- Ed Chamberlin — Southampton FC describes the broadcaster as a “Saints fan and TV presenter.” In a club feature, he discussed memories of following Southampton and his broadcasting career. The club published the feature on 22 May 2025.
- Craig David — FourFourTwo calls the singer a lifelong Southampton supporter, and VICE also includes him among the club’s famous fans. These are secondary identifications; the sources cited here do not provide a direct statement from David about supporting the club. FourFourTwo’s 2022 list and VICE’s Southampton guide name him.
- Chris Packham — FourFourTwo and VICE both list the naturalist and broadcaster as a Saints supporter. The cited material does not include a direct statement from Packham about his fandom.
- Will Champion — FourFourTwo identifies the Coldplay drummer as a Southampton supporter and reports that he has a season ticket. VICE mentions a Coldplay band member among the club’s famous fans but does not name him in the passage cited here, so FourFourTwo is the source for identifying Champion and the season-ticket detail.
How strong is the evidence for each name?
The sources establish different things, so they should not be treated as equally direct proof. Southampton FC itself calls Chamberlin a fan. ITV reports Sunak’s own description of himself, while Sky reports his attendance at a match. David, Packham and Champion are identified through celebrity-fan lists rather than direct supporter statements in the material cited here.
| Supporter | Evidence cited |
|---|---|
| Ed Chamberlin | Southampton FC calls him a Saints fan and features his memories of following the club. |
| Rishi Sunak | ITV reports his self-description as a “massive Saints fan”; Sky reports his attendance at a Southampton match. |
| Craig David | Named in FourFourTwo and VICE lists; no direct statement is established by the cited material. |
| Chris Packham | Listed by FourFourTwo and VICE; no direct statement is established by the cited material. |
| Will Champion | FourFourTwo names him and reports he has a season ticket; no direct statement is established by the cited material. |
Is this Southampton’s definitive top five?
No. “Most famous” is a matter of editorial judgment here: the cited publications do not compare audience size, public recognition or another consistent measure. FourFourTwo also lists David Frost and Lucy Pinder, so another selection could reasonably differ depending on how fame and evidence are weighed.

Sunak’s birthplace is sometimes useful biographical context: Visit Southampton says he was born in the city in 1980. That fact does not independently establish his support for Southampton FC; the stronger relevant evidence is his reported self-description and match attendance.
