The viral pretzel-cutting clip is real, but it comes from a single challenge on Schlag den Henssler, a broad German game show—not a series devoted to cutting food in half. Gizmodo identified the program in its February 2024 report.
What is the pretzel-cutting clip from?
In the clip, TV chef and host Steffen Henssler tries to cut a pretzel into two pieces of equal weight. Dexerto shared the video on X on February 17, 2024, with the caption, “There is a german TV show where contestants try to split things perfectly in half.” German speakers pointed out that the footage showed one mini-game within a larger show, as Gizmodo reported.
Gizmodo’s account says the post had passed 67.6 million views by Wednesday afternoon after it was shared. That is a view count reported at the time, not a current total.
What is Schlag den Henssler?
Schlag den Henssler (“Beat Henssler”) was a head-to-head game show in which a contestant competed against Henssler across more than a dozen varied mini-games. The challenges included quizzes, sports and skill tests; the pretzel challenge was one unusual entry among them. Gizmodo says the show began in 2017 and ran through 2018, with episodes lasting four to five hours.

The premise matters: the food-cutting challenge was not the subject of the series. It was one test in a long, varied contest.
Is there a related show with similar challenges?
Gizmodo also identifies Schlag den Star (“Beat the Star”) as a related format. Rather than centering on Henssler facing a contestant, it featured celebrity contestants competing through a similar mix of mini-games.
