Australian influencer Sophia Begg, known online as Sopha Dopha, drew criticism over an Instagram carousel from her first day in Tokyo. Commenters objected to what they saw as a mismatch between the post’s Japanese setting and its music, and some accused her of treating Asian culture as an aesthetic. Those are reported reactions, not an established finding about Begg’s intent or a consensus among Japanese or Asian people.
What was in Sopha Dopha’s Tokyo post?
PerthNow reported on July 18, 2025, that Begg posted a carousel of photos from her first day in Tokyo. The report described her wearing a white T-shirt printed with the Japanese characters “Suki,” pink shorts and a polka-dot bandana. It also said the photos showed Begg and two friends exploring the city, including having matcha and ramen. The Instagram post itself was not independently retrieved for this account. PerthNow’s report
PerthNow identified the carousel’s audio as “Blueprint Supreme,” a Mandarin-language track by Chinese rapper SKAI ISYOURGOD. That detail was central to the criticism because the post was set in Japan while the song was not Japanese music. PerthNow’s report
What did commenters object to?
PerthNow quoted an unnamed commenter saying, “the song isn’t even in Japanese.” Another quoted commenter characterized the post as treating Asian culture as an aesthetic and connected that criticism to unequal experiences of cultural shaming: “This honestly reflects white privilege on another level… being able to pick and choose parts of someone else’s culture for aesthetic without needing to understand or respect it.” PerthNow’s report

These comments document the views of individual, unnamed critics. They do not establish Begg’s intentions, an official assessment of the post, or what Japanese and Asian people as a whole thought about it. The available account also does not provide a direct statement from Begg addressing the criticism.
What was Begg’s response?
At the time PerthNow published its story on July 18, 2025, it reported that Begg had neither removed the post nor responded to the negative comments. That is a snapshot of the post’s status at publication, not confirmation of what happened afterward. PerthNow’s report
