Ben Kingsley is included in reporting on the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but the report does not identify the character he will play or voice. The film is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on March 19, 2027.
What is confirmed about Ben Kingsley’s role?
Nintendo Life reported on March 19, 2026, citing a cast list from Variety, that Kingsley is among the film’s cast additions. The article said there was “no word on who these newbies will be voicing.” It therefore confirms his reported cast membership, not a specific character assignment. Read the cast coverage at Nintendo Life.
No character name is established in that report. Claims that Kingsley is playing a particular character should be treated as speculation unless Paramount, SEGA, Kingsley, or another direct source confirms it.
When is Sonic the Hedgehog 4 scheduled to release?
The film is scheduled for U.S. theatrical release on March 19, 2027, according to the March 2026 cast report and SEGA’s announcement. A scheduled date can change. SEGA’s March 10, 2026 announcement also sets out a merchandise plan tied to the film’s arrival.

What Sonic the Hedgehog 4 merchandise has been announced?
SEGA announced a multi-year merchandise partnership with JAKKS Pacific and its costume division, Disguise. The planned product categories include action figures, plush, playsets, role-play products, costumes, and costume accessories, with products expected to reach the market in early 2027 ahead of the film.
This is an announced product plan, not confirmation that Sonic the Hedgehog 4-branded items are already listed by retailers or available to buy. SEGA’s release does not name retailers or provide specific product launch dates.

What did SEGA say about the franchise?
In its March 10, 2026 announcement, SEGA said the Sonic franchise had surpassed 1.77 billion units in sales and free-to-play downloads. That is a combined franchise measure; it is not a box-office figure or a total for paid game sales alone.
The release also quoted Shuji Utsumi, SEGA Corporation’s President and COO, Representative Director: “JAKKS Pacific has been an incredible partner, with their creativity, quality, and passion bringing Sonic the Hedgehog to life for fans around the world.” The comment concerns the merchandise partnership, not Kingsley’s character.
