In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024), Sonic, Knuckles and Tails face Shadow, a powerful and mysterious hedgehog—and need an unexpected alliance to stop him and save the planet. That alliance puts the Blue Blur alongside his longtime foe Dr. Ivo Robotnik, setting up the film’s central twist without giving away how it plays out.
What is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 about?
Paramount Pictures’ official synopsis frames the conflict as Team Sonic against Shadow: Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite to confront a new opponent whose formidable powers make their usual approach insufficient. The team turns to an unexpected ally in order to stop Shadow and protect the planet. Paramount’s synopsis establishes the alliance as part of the setup, but does not spell out its circumstances.
The story’s appeal is the uneasy pairing at its center. Sonic and Robotnik have been adversaries, so the prospect of working together immediately raises questions about trust and shared purpose. The film’s premise makes that alliance a response to the scale of Shadow’s threat, rather than a simple change of sides.
Who is Shadow, and who voices him?
Shadow is the mysterious hedgehog whose formidable powers bring Team Sonic together again. Keanu Reeves voices Shadow, while Ben Schwartz voices Sonic and Idris Elba voices Knuckles. Jim Carrey plays both Ivo Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik, giving him two distinct roles in the story.
