What is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 about?
Released in cinemas on December 20, 2024, the film reunites Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails against Shadow, described in Paramount’s synopsis as a formidable new foe. The team forms an unexpected alliance to stop him and protect the planet. Jeff Fowler directed, and Keanu Reeves voices Shadow.

That conflict gives the film a clear central hook: a new adversary whose threat drives the familiar team into a new alliance. The premise alone, however, can’t establish how effectively the story develops Shadow’s history, balances its action with comedy, or earns its ending. Those are the points a genuine review would need to assess from the film itself.
Is Keanu Reeves good as Shadow?
Reeves is confirmed as Shadow’s voice, and Paramount’s synopsis positions Shadow as the formidable opponent at the center of the story. That makes the casting a natural reason to be curious about the sequel. Whether Reeves’s performance succeeds as a piece of acting is a subjective judgment that can’t be verified from the casting announcement or plot description alone.

How long is Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
The runtime depends on the listing. Paramount+ displays 1 hour 50 minutes for its US catalog entry. The BBFC’s UK cinema record gives a more exact runtime of 109 minutes 56 seconds, rounded to approximately 110 minutes. Both listings put it at roughly an hour and 50 minutes; the difference is how precisely each source reports it.
Is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 suitable for children?
Paramount+ lists the film as PG in the United States and categorizes it as kids and family. In the United Kingdom, the BBFC notes mild violence, threat, language, and rude humour. Its content advice mentions fights, energy blasts, explosions, and fantastical weapons, and warns that flashing images may affect viewers susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

Those classifications and content notes are more useful than the broad family label when deciding whether it suits a particular child. The BBFC guidance applies to its UK classification record; the Paramount+ rating applies to its US listing.
What did audiences and critics think?
Figures reported shortly after release are historical snapshots, not current ratings. On December 22, 2024, the Associated Press reported an 86% Rotten Tomatoes freshness figure and an A CinemaScore. The AP also reported Paramount studio estimates of a $62 million opening weekend and a $122 million production budget. These figures were reported at the time; they are not independently audited production accounting or a live measure of audience opinion.

Paramount said on February 17, 2025 that the film had grossed more than $478 million worldwide and was, at that time, the highest-grossing film in the series. That is a dated studio-reported total, not a current box-office figure.
