Kakao Entertainment later described the series as Crunchyroll’s most-watched anime of all time, a broader claim that should be attributed to Kakao rather than treated as identical wording from Sony’s report.
What record did Solo Leveling break?
Sony’s 2025 Corporate Report says Season 1 of Solo Leveling became Crunchyroll’s “most-viewed new anime” in 2024. The qualifiers matter: the claim is about a new anime, on Crunchyroll, during 2024. Sony does not give a view count in that statement.
Kakao Entertainment’s May 2025 release separately calls Season 1 Crunchyroll’s most popular title of 2024. In a June 2025 LinkedIn post, Kakao said Sony had confirmed Solo Leveling as Crunchyroll’s most-watched anime of all time. That all-time description is broader than the wording in Sony’s published report, so it is best read as Kakao’s account of Sony’s confirmation, not as a direct quotation of Sony’s 2025 report.

Why the later ratings milestone is a different record
In May 2026, ComicBook.com reported that Solo Leveling had become the first Crunchyroll anime to pass one million user ratings, with a 4.9-star average at that time. Ratings measure audience responses submitted to the platform; they do not establish how many people streamed the series or how often it was watched. The figure is a separate milestone, not a revised viewership total.

Season 2 and the franchise’s wider success
Kakao Entertainment said Season 2 led charts across Crunchyroll regions in the first quarter of 2025. The company also reported that Solo Leveling won nine honors at the May 25, 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year, after receiving nominations in 13 of 23 categories.
Other franchise figures refer to different formats and should not be confused with anime streaming. Kakao reported more than 14.3 billion cumulative views worldwide for the web novel and webtoon adaptations, and more than 60 million cumulative users for the Solo Leveling:ARISE game. Neither number is an anime view count.

What the anime adapts
Solo Leveling began as a webtoon based on a South Korean novel. Its story follows Sung Jinwoo, initially the weakest hunter, as he grows stronger while facing monsters and other threats. Sony says the anime is co-produced by Aniplex, under Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), and Crunchyroll; A-1 Pictures, an Aniplex studio, handled the animation.
Sony also says the adaptation was prepared for simultaneous worldwide release, with subtitles in 16 languages and dubs in 10. Those localization details help explain the series’ international reach, but they are not themselves evidence of a particular audience total.

What comes next for the anime
Sony says the specially edited film Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- screened theatrically ahead of Season 2. At Anime Expo 2026, Crunchyroll announced Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a theatrical movie continuing from Season 2. The announcement establishes that a continuation is planned; it does not, by itself, provide a release date.
