What happens in the Senate scene?
Chancellor Palpatine announces that the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire. Senators applaud; Padmé sees the danger in their approval and recognizes that the old political order is ending. The contrast between the crowd’s celebration and her alarm makes the line memorable: the loss of liberty arrives not amid open resistance, but with public acclaim.
The scene is a fictional depiction of democratic collapse, not evidence that the film predicts or directly represents any particular real-world political event. Its political resonance is open to interpretation, but the film’s immediate story is clear: Palpatine consolidates power while the Senate welcomes the transformation.

When was the 20th-anniversary re-release?
Lucasfilm announced a one-week theatrical run beginning April 25, 2025, in select U.S. theaters and international territories. It was a past event, not an upcoming ticket opportunity. The announcement named participating exhibitors including AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, B&B, Cinemark, Fandango, Galaxy, Harkins, Marcus, Megaplex, and Regal Showcase; participation and availability varied by location. What formats were offered?
The anniversary screenings came in several formats, including 4DX for the first time. Lucasfilm described the 4DX presentation as motion chairs synchronized with more than 21 effects. That applied to participating 4DX screenings, not every theater or territory; the announcement does not establish that a particular format was available at every location.

What was new about the event artwork?
Lucasfilm commissioned event poster art by graphic artist Matt Ferguson. The design features Darth Vader’s mask looming over Anakin, the Anakin–Obi-Wan duel, and the Coruscant skyline. Ferguson said the space battle and Mustafar elements were unusually complicated because they involved more ships and explosions than his other Star Wars posters, and called it the movie where everything unravels for Anakin. The announcement confirms the artwork was created, but does not establish that a retail poster edition was sold.
What did the anniversary run add to the film’s theatrical history?
Lucasfilm’s 2025 year-in-review gave an estimated worldwide opening of $42.2 million for the re-release. This is an opening estimate, not the film’s final theatrical gross. StarWars.com’s 2025 year-in-review is the source for that figure.

The event revisited the final film in George Lucas’s prequel trilogy, which he wrote and directed. Alongside Portman, the ensemble includes Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, and Samuel L. Jackson. The anniversary screenings brought the Senate’s fall—and Anakin Skywalker’s path toward Darth Vader—back to cinemas as a shared big-screen experience.

The 2025 screenings are over. For home viewing or collecting, Lucasfilm confirmed Revenge of the Sith among eight films released on 4K UHD in 2020. That physical edition is separate from the anniversary event, not a special disc created for it. The announcement confirms the release, but not current stock, pricing, or edition contents. Lucasfilm’s home-entertainment announcement lists the 4K UHD releases.
