No: Jessie Buckley has not been announced as the next James Bond. The Euronews story claiming she had been cast was an April Fools’ joke. In the latest dated status report available here, published September 8, 2026, the successor to Daniel Craig had still not been officially announced.
Why the Jessie Buckley story is a joke
Euronews published “So long Daniel Craig… The identity of the new James Bond has been revealed” on April 1, 2026. It names actor Jessie Buckley as Bond, then adds deliberately absurd details, including purported supporting roles for Tom Hiddleston and Gillian Anderson, a character called “Fitty McCrotch” and musical numbers. The article ends with the explicit sign-off, “Happy April Fools.”
Stuttgarter Zeitung also identified the Euronews item as an April Fools’ prank that same day. The headline and news-style presentation are not evidence of a casting announcement.
What is actually known about the next Bond
Amazon MGM Studios said on May 14, 2026, that “the search for the next James Bond is underway.” The studio also said it did not plan to comment on specific casting details during the process. Its statement confirmed the production team, not the actor playing Bond.

Has an actor been chosen behind the scenes?
ITV News reported on September 8, 2026, that a choice may have been made privately, but said no successful candidate had been officially announced. That distinction matters: a report that a decision may exist is not the same as a public studio confirmation. Names discussed in press reports or rumors should not be treated as cast.
