Snow White led the North American box office on its opening weekend in March 2025, but it did not surpass the Disney remake openings available for comparison. Sunday studio estimates put its domestic debut at $43 million; final reporting later recorded $42.2 million.
What did Snow White earn on opening weekend?
On Sunday, March 23, 2025, The Associated Press reported studio estimates of $43 million in North American ticket sales and $44.3 million overseas, for an estimated $87.3 million worldwide opening. Those were estimates, not final weekend totals. The Numbers later recorded the domestic opening at $42,206,415.
The film nevertheless topped that weekend’s North American chart. The next title earned an estimated $4.4 million domestically, according to the AP’s Sunday report. That is what the headline’s claim about beating the competition describes: the weekend chart, not a record among Disney remakes.
How did Snow White’s domestic opening compare with other Disney remakes?
On nominal domestic opening-weekend figures, Snow White opened below each of the four notable remakes in this comparison. The amounts below come from the cited publishers and reflect their reported figures for each film’s release year; they are not adjusted for inflation.

| Film | Domestic opening weekend | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Snow White (2025) | $42,206,415 | The Numbers’ final domestic opening figure, accessed October 8, 2026; the AP’s Sunday studio estimate was $43 million. |
| Dumbo (2019) | $45,990,748 | The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026; the AP rounded this to $46 million in its 2025 comparison. |
| Cinderella (2015) | $67.9 million | The Associated Press’ 2025 comparison. |
| The Little Mermaid (2023) | $95,578,040 | The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026. |
| Beauty and the Beast (2017) | $174,750,616 | The Numbers, accessed October 8, 2026. |
These examples establish that Snow White opened below the four listed films, not its exact position among every Disney remake. Opening weekends are a useful like-for-like measure, but release calendars and audience conditions differ from film to film. The AP described remake results as widely variable and pointed to The Lion King, which grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide, as an example of a very different outcome.
In its March 23, 2025 report, AP film writer Jake Coyle called the debut a possible low point, writing: “There’s been a wide variance between the box-office performance of other ‘live-action’ Disney remakes, but ‘Snow White’ might mark a new nadir.” That was Coyle’s contemporaneous assessment, not a definitive ranking of the entire remake catalogue.

What were Snow White’s final box-office totals?
The Numbers’ figures, accessed October 8, 2026, list Snow White at $87,203,963 domestic, $118,475,500 international, and $205,679,463 worldwide. These lifetime totals answer a different question from the film’s opening weekend: they measure its full reported theatrical run rather than its first three days.
What do the UK and EMEA figures cover?
Disney UK reported a £3.85 million opening over three days in the UK and Ireland. Separately, it estimated a $23.4 million cumulative EMEA total after the film’s first week in cinemas. The figures cover different territories, currencies, and periods, so neither should be confused with the worldwide opening estimate.

Does the box office show whether Snow White was profitable?
The Numbers lists a production budget of $269.4 million. Comparing that figure directly with the reported $205.7 million worldwide box office does not establish the film’s profit or loss: a production budget is not a full account of costs or revenues. The cited figures do not provide complete marketing costs, the portion of ticket sales retained by cinemas, or ancillary revenue.

In its March 23, 2025 report, the AP noted that Snow White had a B+ CinemaScore and that 43% of Rotten Tomatoes reviews were marked “fresh” at the time. These are dated reception snapshots, not proof of what caused the film’s box-office result.
