Disney’s live-action Snow White opened in first place in the U.S. and Canada with a Sunday estimate of about $43 million for March 21–23, 2025. The Numbers later listed its three-day opening at $42,206,415—about $42.2 million—so the headline figure reflects the contemporary estimate, not the later database total.
What the $43 million headline reported
On Sunday, the Associated Press reported that Snow White had earned approximately $43 million in ticket sales over its opening weekend and ranked first at the U.S. and Canadian box office. The figure was a studio estimate reported before final weekend totals were available. Associated Press, March 23, 2025.

The film opened in the U.S. and Canada on March 21, 2025. In this context, “opening weekend” means Friday through Sunday, March 21–23, rather than every ticket sale in the film’s first release week. The Numbers, Snow White (2025).
Why a later listing says $42.2 million
The Numbers lists the final opening-weekend gross as $42,206,415. Rounded to the nearest million, that is $42 million, not $43 million. The difference reflects the reporting stage and the figures’ precision: the Associated Press used an approximate Sunday studio estimate, while The Numbers lists a later, exact total. The two reports should not be presented as though they give the same number.

The Numbers also lists Snow White’s domestic total at $87,203,963. That is a separate cumulative figure, not the opening-weekend gross. “Domestic” here refers to the U.S. and Canada; these figures do not establish the film’s worldwide total.
Opening weekend versus opening week
The Numbers’ chart for the week beginning March 21 lists $52,614,583 for Snow White. That covers a longer period than the Friday-to-Sunday opening weekend, so it should not be compared with $42,206,415 as if both figures measured the same three days. The Numbers, week beginning March 21, 2025.

How the opening compared with expectations
Before release, estimates reported by the Associated Press put the expected opening in a range of $45 million to $55 million, based on analyst and presale-ticket estimates. The AP’s Sunday estimate of about $43 million came in below that range. These are not identical kinds of figures: one is a pre-release forecast range, and the other is a Sunday estimate of sales. Associated Press, March 23, 2025.

The contemporary headline phrase “sleepy $43 million” was a characterization in the Associated Press headline, not a measured audience reaction. The opening figures establish the film’s reported domestic grosses and chart position, but they do not by themselves establish profitability or worldwide performance.

Coverage also noted pre-release controversy around the film’s CGI depiction of the dwarfs and comments by star Rachel Zegler. The available reports do not show that either issue caused the opening result; attributing the box office to those controversies would go beyond the evidence. Associated Press, March 23, 2025.
