It is a strong low-commitment choice for one person or household planning concentrated viewing over three days. It is not a complete holiday-movie service, does not guarantee local broadcast stations, allows one stream, and starts counting down immediately after purchase.
For a weeklong visit, the $14.99 7-Day Pass may be better value. For Hallmark-focused movie marathons, Hallmark+ or another dedicated service is a closer match; for local network specials, an antenna may be necessary.
What Sling’s latest short-term pass actually is
The relevant product is Sling Orange’s 3-Day Pass, announced on December 10, 2025 as the replacement for Sling’s earlier Weekend Pass structure. It is the newest standard short-term pass, alongside Sling’s 1-Day and 7-Day options. It can be used for any consecutive three-day period; it is not limited to Saturday and Sunday.
Sling Essentials, launched as a newer monthly product in 2026, is separate and does not change how the 3-Day Pass works. The pass is sold in the United States; it is not an international offer.

Sling’s official pass page lists the purchase as a one-time charge. Access starts immediately after checkout, runs for 72 consecutive hours, and ends automatically without a recurring subscription charge.
Price, duration and the holiday-weekend math
Prices below are Sling’s listed U.S. prices checked in August 2026. Promotions, taxes and account-specific offers can change.

At about $3.33 per day, the 3-Day Pass costs less than buying three 1-Day Passes separately ($14.97). The 7-Day Pass is only $5 more, so it is often the sensible choice when guests may watch throughout a full week. A monthly plan becomes more practical when viewing will continue after the holiday.
When the 72-hour clock starts—and how not to waste it
- Sign in to or create a Sling account.
- Purchase the 3-Day Pass shortly before the first program you intend to watch.
- Access begins immediately after checkout.
- Write down the exact expiration time; 72 hours later, the paid channels stop.
- Let the pass expire automatically, or move to a monthly service if you need continued access.
Buying at noon Friday means access ends at noon Monday, not at midnight Sunday. The pass does not renew, and Sling says no cancellation is required. This timing makes it useful for a precisely planned long weekend but less useful if you buy several days before guests arrive.

What channels and programming are included
Sling lists 34 Sling Orange channels with the pass. The lineup can change, so check the official page and current guide before purchasing.

The full listed lineup also includes Charge!, Comet, AXS TV, Fuse, QVC, Local Now, MeTV, Slingscapes and Discovery Turbo. Live schedules and rights change, so the pass does not guarantee a particular holiday movie, marathon, game or episode. It supplies the included networks’ live feeds plus Sling’s included on-demand content.
What the pass does not promise
It is Sling Orange only
The pass does not automatically include Sling Blue or the combined Orange + Blue lineup. A channel you associate with Sling may therefore be absent.
Local stations are not guaranteed
Sling Orange generally does not include local ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX affiliates nationwide. Availability is market- and plan-dependent. Check by ZIP code before buying, and consider an over-the-air antenna for local news, network specials and football. Sling discusses that option at its deals page.

It is not a dedicated holiday-movie catalog
Sling Orange may carry holiday programming on its networks, but it is not an unlimited Hallmark-style library. Sling lists Hallmark+ separately at $7.99 per month on its premium-services page; that figure may be promotional or account-specific.
One stream means one simultaneous viewer
The 3-Day Pass includes one stream. A family cannot assume that one subscription will support different channels on multiple televisions at the same time.
Several upgrades are unavailable
Sling’s help documentation says premium subscriptions, Total TV, the 4 Extras Deal and DVR upgrades cannot be added to a pass. Pay-per-view events are not included, although they may be purchased separately. Sling lists 50 hours of free cloud DVR, but Unlimited DVR cannot be attached to this pass.
Internet, devices and free viewing after expiration
Sling says the pass works on supported streaming devices, smart TVs, phones, tablets and computers and recommends an internet connection of at least 3 Mbps. Holiday home Wi-Fi congestion can still affect playback, so test the connection before a major event.

After the paid period ends, the paid Orange channels disappear, but Sling Freestream remains available. Sling describes Freestream as offering more than 600 free live channels at watch.sling.com. Its lineup is different from Orange, so it is a fallback rather than a substitute for a specific ESPN, AMC or Disney Channel program.

Three-day family weekend: strong fit
For Friday-night movies, Saturday sports and Sunday family or lifestyle programming, $9.99 avoids a monthly bill while covering a broad cable lineup. One stream must be enough.
One major game or marathon: consider the 1-Day Pass
If you genuinely need only one day, the $4.99 1-Day Pass is cheaper. Three separate days cost more than the 3-Day Pass.
Guests staying most of a week: choose the 7-Day Pass
The extra $5 buys four additional days and removes the pressure of fitting every viewing session into one 72-hour window.

Hallmark-centered movie viewing: choose a dedicated service
If the main objective is Hallmark holiday movies, rom-coms, cozy mysteries and Hallmark originals, Hallmark+ is a more direct match than a general live-TV bundle.
Multi-TV household: weak fit
One stream makes the pass awkward when children, guests and sports fans want separate channels simultaneously.
How to buy without a holiday surprise
- Check the current 34-channel list and search your ZIP code for local-channel availability.
- Confirm that the desired network is in Sling Orange, not only Sling Blue or a premium tier.
- Buy at Sling’s 3-Day Pass page immediately before viewing begins.
- Add an eligible extra during checkout if needed. Sling’s example prices Orange + Sports Extra at $5.99 for one day, $11.99 for three days and $17.99 for seven days; the listed add-on portions are $1, $2 and $3 respectively.
- Record the exact expiration time and verify the device is supported.
- Use the pass until it expires; no cancellation workflow is required.

Recurring live-TV alternatives include YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and Philo. Their current pricing, lineups and promotions require separate checking and should not be assumed to beat Sling for a three-day window.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Buy the $9.99 Sling Orange 3-Day Pass when you want live cable channels for one concentrated, three-day holiday window, one stream is enough, and local stations or a dedicated holiday-movie catalog are not essential. Choose the 7-Day Pass for a full week, Hallmark+ for Hallmark-first viewing, Freestream or an antenna for free/local options, and monthly Sling only when your viewing extends beyond the short-term pass.
