When was it released, and how long is it?
Paramount lists the film’s release date as March 22, 2024, and its rating as R. Rotten Tomatoes lists a limited US theatrical release on that date and streaming from April 9, 2024. The runtime differs slightly between listings: Paramount says 111 minutes, while Apple TV lists 1 hour 51 minutes. Those sources therefore do not establish one exact runtime.
Where can you watch Sleeping Dogs?
Paramount labels digital as a viewing route, and Rotten Tomatoes records streaming beginning April 9, 2024. These listings do not confirm that the film is currently available on a particular service or in every country. Check a current listing for your territory before renting or subscribing. What did critics and audiences think?
Reception has been mixed. On October 8, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes displayed 44% from 41 critic reviews and 79% from more than 500 audience ratings. These are a dated snapshot of a changing aggregator, not permanent scores.
The contrast is evident in the reviews reproduced there. Sandra Hall of the Sydney Morning Herald praised the film’s noir atmosphere and Crowe’s performance, writing: “It’s an engrossing plunge into the film noir tradition and it’s a pleasure to watch Crowe embody the very fallible Freeman.” Other excerpts on the same aggregator criticize the screenplay and the mystery’s effectiveness. Rotten Tomatoes’ listed consensus reads: “Forgetting to give Russell Crowe a compelling mystery to solve, Sleeping Dogs lies down rather than stands on its own.”

Who is it for?
The premise may appeal to viewers who like crime mysteries built around uncertain memory, police-procedural investigation and a protagonist reassessing an old case.
