These six novels range from a memory-struck stranger in 1970s Calcutta to a human-alloy traveller from another planet. They appeared in a Scroll.in feature dated September 1, 2024, but they are not all September releases: the verified editions include an August 2024 hardback and a paperback published September 18, 2024. Stories rooted in social change and family
The Interloper — Manoranjan Byapari, translated by V. Ramaswamy
Jibon turns up at Jadavpur railway station after a bomb blast was believed to have killed him. He has lost his memory and encounters vendors, drivers, squatters and other residents as early-1970s Calcutta is shaken by class inequality, violence and political upheaval. The novel is the final book in Byapari’s Chandal Jibon trilogy. Its English translation is by V. Ramaswamy. A bookseller record identifies an Eka English paperback, 358 pages, ISBN 9789360455996.
Missy — Raghav Rao
Savi, an orphan raised at a convent in Madras, becomes governess to a wealthy family. After a night of violence, she and Ananda leave India and later live in America under new identities. Decades on, Savi runs a successful business in Chicago, but secrets from her earlier life threaten the identity she has built.

The Grand Samara — Trisha Das
Samara Mansingh, a diplomat’s daughter and wedding photographer, stays with the Khanna family in Delhi. The Fertile Earth — Ruthvika Rao
In the village of Irumi, Vijaya and Sree are daughters of a landowning family; Krishna and Ranga are sons of a household servant. A bond formed in childhood and a disastrous event shape their adult lives amid Naxalite politics, disputes over land and class conflict.

Loka — SB Divya
Akshaya, a human-alloy hybrid from planet Meru, travels across Earth with her friend Somya on an anthropological journey. They go without alloy technology or assistance, encountering unfamiliar environments and questions about what it means to be human. The premise places this novel furthest from the other five’s grounded social and family settings.
