Sister Act the Musical officially opened at Crown Theatre Perth on April 30, 2025. PerthNow published its opening-night photo gallery on May 7, capturing the audience and atmosphere around the production’s Perth premiere.
Opening night at Crown Theatre Perth
The April 30 opening marked the start of the musical’s 2025 Perth season. The photographs in PerthNow’s May 7 gallery are credited to John Koh/The West Australian. The gallery names audience members including Rove McManus, Peter Rowsthorn and Australian Idol finalist Gisella Colletti; they are identified as attendees, not performers.

The season was a limited engagement in 2025. PerthNow’s gallery said it was advertised through May 25, while a review reported a May 28 end date. Those accounts differ, so a definitive closing date is not established here.
Who starred in the Perth production?
- Casey Donovan played Deloris Van Cartier, the disco diva at the centre of the story.
- Genevieve Lemon played Mother Superior.
- Rhonda Burchmore played Sister Mary Lazarus.
PerthNow described the story as following Deloris in 1970s Philadelphia. In an interview, Donovan said: “It’s been such a great show to be a lead in. Dolores is such a fun, witty, front-footed character. She really is just this ball of energy,” The published quote spells the character’s name “Dolores”; elsewhere, her name is Deloris Van Cartier. Donovan also said: “I pay a lot of respect to Whoopi on stage, but the great thing about musical theatre is making a character your own.”

Is the musical based on the film?
Yes. The stage musical is based on the 1992 film Sister Act, which starred Whoopi Goldberg. But it is not simply a stage version of the film’s soundtrack: the musical features original music by Alan Menken, with songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco.

Ticketmaster Australia listed the production’s running time as 2 hours 30 minutes, including interval, and recommended it for ages 10 and up. Its listing also noted moderate language, gunshot effects and depictions of smoking onstage. Those details describe the 2025 Perth event listing, not guidance for any future production.
