Devon and Simone are sisters; Simone works for Michaela at the Kells’ island estate, and Devon arrives worried about her sister’s closeness to her employer. The five-episode limited series draws its tensions from family, class, power, and the island’s tightly connected social circle.
The central four characters
The story unfolds over one explosive weekend at the Kells’ island estate. Netflix frames the series as a darkly funny story about women, power, and class, based on Molly Smith Metzler’s play Elemeno Pea. Netflix’s cast guide and series overview identify the principal cast and explain how the characters are connected.

People who run the estate

- Britne Oldford as Missy: The Kells’ seasonal housekeeper, who runs the staff’s snarky text chain.
- Lauren Weedman as Patrice: The Kells’ tough, longtime personal chef.
Michaela’s friends
- Jenn Lyon as Cloe
- Erin Neufer as Lisa
- Emily Borromeo as Astrid
Cloe, Lisa, and Astrid are friends of Michaela and members of the Folger Glen Wildlife Preservation Society. Netflix Tudum gives them comic shorthand as “the mean girl,” “the zealot,” and “the ditz,” respectively; those are the guide’s characterizations, not neutral descriptions.
Lily-Rose
Catherine Cohen plays Lily-Rose, a local Devon meets at the island jail. She shares her suspicions about Michaela and mistakenly believes Devon is named Kevin.
Where the story takes place
The island and Cliff House are fictional. Netflix Tudum reports that the estate grounds were filmed at Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, with Lloyd Harbor, New York, standing in for the island town. Cliff House interiors were built on a sound stage at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn. These are production locations, not the story’s real-world setting.
Creator and executive producer Molly Smith Metzler called Devon “the metronome of the show,” adding, “She sets the pace, and especially the comedy.” She also described the series as a dark comedy with “a Greek mythology vibe.”
