On Rotten Tomatoes’ critic score, Silo Season 2 currently ranks ahead of Season 1: 92% from 53 critic reviews, against 88% from 69 for Season 1. The audience score runs the other way, with Season 2 at 68% and Season 1 at 71%. The “before it’s even premiered” part of the original headline describes pre-release coverage from 2024, when Season 2 had not yet aired, so it no longer applies. The figures here are Rotten Tomatoes’ live scores as checked in 2026. They can change at any time.

The critic score: Season 2 leads, narrowly

Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer aggregates professional critic reviews. Season 2 has a higher percentage, but it has fewer reviews behind it than Season 1 does. A score built on 53 reviews moves more easily than one built on 69, so the lead should be read as modest rather than decisive.

These are Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 1 and Season 2 pages as checked in 2026. Rating counts are shown as the service displays them, with the “+” signifying a floor rather than an exact total.

Why “topping” needs a qualifier

The headline’s verb works only for one of the two measures. Several points keep the comparison honest:

#1 Best Overall
  • Critics and audiences disagree. The critic percentage is higher for Season 2, while the audience percentage is lower. Neither number settles which season viewers preferred overall.
  • The samples differ in size. Season 2 has fewer critic reviews and fewer audience ratings than Season 1, so its percentages carry more sampling noise.
  • The scores are snapshots. Rotten Tomatoes updates them as reviews and ratings arrive, so a comparison made on another date may show different values.
  • Pre-release and post-release reactions are different things. Early reviews published before a premiere are a separate body of evidence from the aggregated scores that followed.

Rotten Tomatoes is one aggregator. Its figures describe its own collection of reviews and ratings, not all critics or all viewers.

What early critics said before Season 2 aired

Rotten Tomatoes Editorial ran a pre-release roundup of early Season 2 reviews and asked directly how the season compared with the first. Two excerpts from it stand out:

  • Joonatan Itkonen, writing for Toisto.net: “It’s a stronger, more complex second outing that proves the series was worth the initial hype.”
  • Tania Hussain, writing for Collider: “The highly-anticipated sophomore release is as palpable and claustrophobic as its first season, never once letting the audience feel disconnected from its characters.”

These are individual reviewers’ views, selected by the roundup. They are not official statements from Apple or Rotten Tomatoes, and they do not represent a consensus of critics. Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 2 page carries a separate critics consensus, which reads: “Rebecca Ferguson’s intrepid hero seeks answers while the rest of Silo’s ensemble capably holds down the fort in this superb sophomore season.”

Season 2 premiere and release schedule

Apple TV Press announced the schedule in July 2024. Season 2 premiered worldwide on November 15, 2024. Its ten episodes were released weekly, one new episode each Friday, through January 17, 2025. Season 2 is therefore a completed run, and its full episode order is available on Apple TV.

About the series

Silo is based on Hugh Howey’s dystopian novel trilogy, which Apple refers to as Wool. Apple’s October 2024 press material describes the premise: people live in a mile-deep underground home in a toxic world. Rebecca Ferguson plays Juliette, who investigates the murder of a loved one and uncovers deeper secrets. Season 2 adds Steve Zahn to a cast that includes returning performers such as Tim Robbins and Common.

The television series and the novels are separate works. The show does not reproduce the books chapter for chapter, so readers should treat each as its own experience.

Where to watch

Apple TV carries all ten Season 2 episodes. Apple’s press material lists Apple TV 4K and Amazon Fire TV among supported screens. Check the Apple TV app on your device for current availability in your region, since platform access can vary by country.

What the comparison does and does not show

Critics have rated Season 2 slightly higher than Season 1 on Rotten Tomatoes, based on a smaller set of reviews. Audiences on the same site have rated Season 2 slightly lower. Anyone deciding whether Season 2 is better should weigh both measures, the review counts behind them, and the date the scores were checked.
