What Sia’s divorce filing said
The Associated Press reported that Sia Furler filed a divorce petition in Los Angeles Superior Court in March 2025. The petition cited irreconcilable differences and listed March 18 as the separation date. Sia also reportedly asked for legal and physical custody and asked that Bernad receive no spousal support. “Irreconcilable differences” is the stated legal ground in the petition; it does not, by itself, explain the private circumstances behind the separation. The reports available do not establish a specific personal motive beyond that filing language.
How the timing relates to their marriage and child
The Los Angeles Times reported, citing court documents, that Sia and Bernad legally married on December 28, 2022. Their child, Somersault Wonder Bernard, was born March 27, 2024. What changed after the initial petition
Bernad’s reported spousal-support request
In October 2025, The Guardian reported, based on court documents, that Bernad sought more than US$250,000 a month in spousal support, along with legal fees and forensic-accounting costs. That figure was a request, not a reported award. The April 2026 child-support and custody agreement
People-reported court documents, summarized by Yahoo News on April 7, 2026, described an agreement providing for US$42,500 per month in child support, joint legal custody, a physical-custody schedule, and additional child-related terms. The amount is the figure reported for this agreement, not a general child-support guideline or an independently verified calculation from a full court docket. On April 7, Sia responded to coverage of the agreement. The Independent reproduced her statement: “I see my settlement has been picked up by the press,” she wrote. “I’m a sober working mom trying to buy peace. I have primary custody of our son and since I am the only parent earning income, I still have to pay California’s incredibly high child support.” Her description of custody and income is her own characterization; the separate reporting describes joint legal custody and a physical-custody schedule. Is Sia’s divorce finalized?
The latest case-related reports available here describe the April 2026 agreement on child support and custody, but they do not establish whether a final judgment dissolving the marriage was entered afterward. An agreement on arrangements for a child is not, on its own, confirmation that the divorce is legally final.
