Douglas won a Gemini Award for Best Featured Actress for the 1999 television film Shadow Lake; the award was presented in 2000, as recorded by the Walk of Fame. The distinction recognized her television work within a career that also included substantial stage and film roles.

Activism alongside acting
Douglas was also known for advocacy, including support for public health care. The Canadian Press obituary describes her advocacy for public health care and support for causes including civil rights; the Library and Archives Canada-hosted profile identifies her as a national spokesperson for the Canada Health Coalition.
