Shaun White says ending his engagement to Nina Dobrev was a major change, but he has not disclosed the private reason they split. In an Associated Press interview, he wished Dobrev well, rejected online theories about the breakup and said he is focusing on himself and his businesses.
What Shaun White said about the breakup
White described the end of the relationship as “a huge change in my life.” Reflecting on their time together, he told the Associated Press: “It’s almost six years with somebody. I wish her the best. It’s one of those things where you’re planning on forever with somebody and everything needs to fit right.”
He also addressed speculation that followed the news of their split on Instagram. People tried to supply explanations, he said, “none of which have been true.” White did not elaborate on what led to the breakup.
Instead, he said he had been “working on myself, working on my business, working on my companies” and trying to work out what the next chapter of his life would look like. The AP described this interview as his first public comments about the ended engagement. Associated Press interview

Why did Shaun White and Nina Dobrev break up?
White did not give a reason. His comment that online explanations “have not been true” rejects those theories without establishing what actually happened between the couple.
An earlier AP report said an unnamed person close to White and Dobrev characterized the split as a mutual decision. That was anonymous-source reporting, not a direct explanation from either White or Dobrev, and it did not identify a private cause. Associated Press breakup report
