On the April 21, 2025 live broadcast of Inside the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal abruptly left the set during a postgame discussion of the Los Angeles Clippers–Denver Nuggets playoff game to use the bathroom. His co-hosts kept talking and turned the moment into a joke; reports did not establish a medical reason for his exit.

What happened on the live broadcast?

O’Neal got up and left while the panel was discussing the Clippers–Nuggets playoff game after it ended. The April 21 incident was reported the next day by Mediaite and E!. The panel continued the discussion as he walked off.

How did the hosts react?

According to Mediaite’s account of the exchange, Charles Barkley asked, “You alright, big fella?” Kenny Smith asked, “You catching a cramp?” O’Neal told them, “Go ahead,” and then, “Keep talking, Jet.” When Barkley checked again, O’Neal replied, “I know, but go ahead.”

Smith later joked, “It’s that olive oil you’ve been drinking.” Fox News also reported the olive-oil joke and said O’Neal mentioned drinking too much water. Those were remarks in the on-air exchange, not an established explanation for why he needed to leave.
