But that was not the same as the court completing the divorce: her estranged husband, Kurt Iswarienko, signed his portion on July 13, and the Los Angeles Times reported that the judgment was filed on July 15.

Did Doherty finalize her divorce the day before she died?
She signed the settlement the day before she died, but the available reporting distinguishes that signature from the later court filing. California Courts explains that a divorce is complete when the Notice of Entry of Judgment is filed; the notice gives the date the marriage officially ends. The Los Angeles Times reported a July 15 judgment filing, but the case-specific Notice of Entry of Judgment was not independently obtained. The exact effective date shown on that notice is therefore not established here. The Los Angeles Superior Court has an official portal for ordering divorce judgment documents.
What did the settlement cover?
Entertainment Tonight quoted court-paper language describing a written agreement about the parties’ property and marital rights, including support. The Los Angeles Times reported that both Doherty and Iswarienko waived spousal support. The reported documents do not establish why the signing and filing dates fell so close to Doherty’s death.
