Shakira’s WorldPride DC 2025 Welcome Concert at Nationals Park was cancelled on May 30, 2025, a day before it was scheduled. The venue and organizer said complications surrounding her Boston show left too little time to move the full tour production to Washington. Shakira said she was “sad and heartbroken”; WorldPride’s wider program was not cancelled.
Why was Shakira’s WorldPride concert cancelled?
The scheduled May 31 performance was the Welcome Concert for WorldPride DC 2025 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. In its cancellation notice, the venue reproduced Shakira’s explanation that unforeseen circumstances affecting her and other artists in Boston meant her full tour production could not reach Washington in time. The WorldPride organizer likewise said complications with the Boston concert prevented the production from getting to Nationals Park for the scheduled performance.
That production delay is the public explanation given for the Washington cancellation. Separately, Axios reported that Shakira’s Fenway Park show in Boston, scheduled for May 29, had been cancelled after Live Nation cited structural elements found below standard during a routine pre-show check. Axios attributed that detail to Live Nation’s statement to Boston 25; it does not establish an independent inspection finding or a separate technical diagnosis of the Nationals Park cancellation.
What did Shakira say?
In a statement reproduced by Axios on May 30, Shakira wrote: “Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able.”

The longer message reproduced by the Nationals said: “Because of the unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances that affected me and other artists in Boston, my full tour production is not able to be moved to Washington, D.C. in time for my scheduled performance on Saturday.” It added that she and her team had made every effort, but that the situation did not depend on them.
Did the cancellation stop WorldPride events?
No. The concert cancellation affected the planned Nationals Park performance, not the full WorldPride program. The organizer said the rest of opening weekend would proceed and that the opening ceremony would be relocated and reorganized. The Associated Press reported the change on May 30, one day before the planned opening concert.
