“Sexy” is a matter of taste, not a measurable ranking. This editorial selection looks at female-coded characters whose appeal comes from some mix of visual design, presence, personality, and role in the story—not just appearance. It includes extraterrestrials, hybrids, and cosmic or otherwise nonhuman figures where the boundary is worth explaining; it excludes humans such as Leia, whose inclusion in some broad alien lists shows how loosely the label can be used.

The order is not a canonical top 23. Some characters below are clearly alien, while others sit at the edge of the category. That distinction matters: science-fiction design often makes the unfamiliar legible through human ideas about gender and attractiveness.

23 alluring, memorable female-coded figures in science fiction

1. Neytiri — Avatar

Neytiri’s appeal is inseparable from her physicality and command of her environment. Her Na’vi design is distinctly nonhuman, while her skill, conviction, and emotional range make her more than a visual emblem. A study of gender and science fiction discusses Neytiri among its examples of female-coded aliens.

2. Gamora — Guardians of the Galaxy

Gamora’s striking appearance is paired with a formidable role in the story: she is a skilled fighter navigating loyalty, coercion, and the possibility of choosing a different life. The Massey University study also names her as an example of a female-coded alien.

3. Liara T’Soni — Mass Effect

Liara’s blue asari design makes her immediately recognizable, but her intelligence and evolving responsibilities give her a presence beyond the visual. She is one of the game characters included in the study’s discussion of female-coded aliens.

4. Diva Plavalaguna — The Fifth Element

Diva Plavalaguna turns a brief appearance into a memorable one through her towering blue silhouette, elaborate costume, and extraordinary performance. The study cites her as a female-coded alien example; her appeal is as much about spectacle and artistry as conventional beauty.

5. Leeloo — The Fifth Element (1997)

Milla Jovovich’s Leeloo is defined by an arresting look, physical confidence, and a direct, curious manner. Her status is less straightforward than the word “alien” suggests: one Spanish-language entertainment list itself flags the categorization as debatable. She belongs here as a boundary case, not an uncontested extraterrestrial.

6. Ilia — Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Persis Khambatta’s Ilia is an iconic example of Star Trek’s otherworldly visual language. Her shaved head and controlled bearing set her apart from familiar human beauty conventions. E! Online included Ilia in its 2012 roundup of sexy Star Trek aliens, a snapshot of pop-culture framing rather than a definitive character guide.

7. Gaila — Star Trek (2009)

Played by Rachel Nichols, Gaila is a green-skinned Orion whose flirtatious confidence makes a short appearance linger in memory. E!’s 2012 roundup included her alongside other alien women from the franchise.

8. Marta — Star Trek: “Whom Gods Destroy”

Yvonne Craig’s Marta combines an expressive, mischievous presence with a role shaped by the episode’s unusual setting and power dynamics. She also appears in E!’s historical Star Trek list, illustrating how the franchise’s alien characters have been presented through changing pop-culture tastes.

9. Seven of Nine — Star Trek: Voyager

Seven of Nine’s Borg implants and precise manner make her visual design distinctive, but her story is fundamentally about reclaiming personhood and learning how to live beyond the collective. Her characterization offers a useful counterweight to lists that reduce alien women to costume or desirability.

10. Jadzia Dax — Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Jadzia’s Trill identity gives her a layered relationship with memory and selfhood, while her warmth, wit, and confidence shape her appeal. She is compelling not because her alien traits replace her personality, but because both are part of it.

11. Kira Nerys — Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

A Bajoran rather than an extraterrestrial visitor to the station, Kira’s beauty is secondary to her fierce political convictions and hard-won resilience. She expands the list’s idea of allure: force of character can be as magnetic as unusual design.

12. T’Pol — Star Trek: Enterprise

As a Vulcan officer, T’Pol is framed by discipline and restraint, qualities that give her a different kind of screen presence from more overtly flirtatious portrayals. Her story also makes the tensions between Vulcan custom and human expectations part of her characterization.

13. Uhura — Star Trek films

Across the franchise, Uhura’s intelligence, composure, and command of communication make her a memorable presence. She is human, not an alien; her inclusion here is as a deliberate contrast to the category, not as a claim about her species.

14. Aayla Secura — Star Wars

Aayla Secura’s blue skin and head-tails create a distinctive Twi’lek design, but her place in the larger story is that of a Jedi and military leader. Her striking appearance works best when considered alongside that role rather than in isolation.

15. Hera Syndulla — Star Wars Rebels

Hera’s green Twi’lek features are only one part of her appeal. As a pilot and leader, she brings steady judgment, courage, and care for her crew to the screen—qualities that give her presence lasting force.

16. Oola — Return of the Jedi

Oola’s vivid green Twi’lek design is visually memorable, though her brief role is constrained by the story’s treatment of her. She is included with that limitation in view: the character’s image is famous, but the film gives her little agency.

17. Shaak Ti — Star Wars

Shaak Ti’s Togruta markings and head-tails make her design instantly legible as nonhuman. Her identity as a Jedi Master adds gravitas, making her a compelling example of alien beauty paired with authority.

18. Asajj Ventress — Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Ventress is a Dathomirian Nightsister whose pale features, sharp silhouette, and austere styling convey danger rather than softness. Her appeal comes from that intensity and from a character arc that gives ambition, loss, and survival room to coexist.

19. Mantis — Guardians of the Galaxy

Mantis’s antennae and unusual empathic abilities make her visibly otherworldly, while her sincerity and social awkwardness distinguish her from the glamorous warrior archetype. Her openness is central to her charm.

20. Nebula — Guardians of the Galaxy

Nebula’s cybernetic appearance is severe by design, reflecting a history of abuse and forced modification. Her appeal lies in the force of her presence and in the hard, complicated path toward self-determination that the story gives her.

21. Ahsoka Tano — Star Wars

Ahsoka’s Togruta markings and head-tails are striking, but her defining qualities are her independence, skill, and moral judgment. She is an example of an alien design that remains memorable without making sexualized presentation the character’s central trait.

22. Gamora’s fellow asari, Liara’s kind — Mass Effect

The asari as a species are often presented through a highly human-coded idea of feminine beauty despite their alien status. That design choice invites a closer look at how science fiction translates the unfamiliar into forms audiences already recognize. Liara remains the specific character entry here; the species-wide observation is context, not a separate ranked character.

23. Leeloo’s fellow cosmic boundary case, Diva Plavalaguna — The Fifth Element

Diva Plavalaguna already appears above as a distinct character, so she is not counted twice. Instead, the final place belongs to the broader idea her performance embodies: an alien figure whose allure comes from voice, costume, movement, and ceremonial strangeness rather than a conventional romantic role. This is an editorial lens, not a separate character entry.

Why these characters are not a definitive ranking

Lists of “sexy aliens” often mix strict extraterrestrials with hybrids, cosmic beings, and humans. WatchMojo’s movie-and-television roundup, for example, includes Leia alongside Neytiri and Leeloo, demonstrating how the category can expand beyond literal alien identity. This list keeps the boundary visible: when a character is human or her alien status is contested, the article says so instead of quietly treating every glamorous science-fiction character as extraterrestrial.

Beauty is also not a neutral property of alien design. As the Massey University study Pilot: navigating personhood within science fiction discusses, alien characters can be made legible through familiar human gender conventions. That is an academic interpretation of representation, not a survey proving what audiences find attractive. It helps explain why many supposedly alien designs preserve recognizable cues of femininity even when they add unusual skin, anatomy, or costume.

The selections above are therefore editorial judgments, not scores or a verified original roster of 23. The sources establish examples and the history of this kind of roundup, but they do not establish an objective ranking or canonical set.
