What is Sex and the City: The Movie about?
The film follows the four friends as their relationships and personal lives change. Carrie’s decision to marry Mr. Big is the central event. In GAGA’s Japanese synopsis, Carrie has bought an apartment to share with him; Samantha is in Los Angeles promoting her actor boyfriend, Smith; Charlotte has adopted a daughter from China; and Miranda is balancing life with her young son and elderly mother-in-law. The friends prepare for Carrie’s wedding. GAGA’s standard DVD listing provides that synopsis.
Who is in the film?
Michael Patrick King wrote and directed the movie. Its principal cast includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Chris Noth, Candice Bergen and Jennifer Hudson. The film continues the stories of Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes, played by Parker, Cattrall, Davis and Nixon, respectively. Microsoft’s US-facing film listing identifies the cast and credits.
Which Japanese DVD editions are documented?
GAGA lists a Japanese collector’s-edition DVD released January 23, 2009, and a standard Japanese DVD released December 2, 2014. Their listed contents differ substantially. The dates and specifications below belong to those Japanese releases; they are not a guide to every DVD edition sold elsewhere.

Specifications and contents are from GAGA’s collector’s-edition listing and GAGA’s standard-edition listing. The 2009 collector’s package is the documented choice if you want the extended cut, booklet and additional features; the standard listing describes a more basic set of extras.
How long is the movie?
The US-facing Microsoft listing gives a runtime of 2 hours 25 minutes. GAGA lists 144 minutes for each of its Japanese DVD editions. Those figures are tied to their respective listings and editions, so they should not be treated as a single universal runtime. Microsoft’s listing and GAGA’s collector’s DVD page provide the figures.

What to check before buying or streaming
For a DVD
- Confirm the exact edition and contents in the seller’s listing; a product title alone does not establish that it is the collector’s package or includes every listed insert and disc.
- Check that your player supports the disc’s region and format. GAGA’s catalog pages do not state region compatibility, so do not assume these Japanese DVDs will play on every player.
- Verify audio and subtitle options against the specific package, especially if you need English subtitles or subtitles for the Japanese dub.
- Check current stock, condition and seller details. GAGA’s catalog entries establish that the editions exist, not that any marketplace listing is currently available. A straightforward search phrase is “Sex and the City: The Movie DVD.”
For streaming or digital purchase
Availability varies by territory and date, so a named service should not be taken as confirmation that this film is currently offered there. Microsoft says it stopped selling new movie and TV content through Microsoft.com and its Windows and Xbox stores; existing purchases remain accessible in its Movies & TV app. Its support page names Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home as transactional services available through its ecosystem, but does not confirm this title’s availability on each service. Microsoft Support explains the change.
