Before that return, Rollins said he hoped to be back for WrestleMania, while emphasizing that his doctors—not he—would decide whether he was cleared to compete.
What happened to Seth Rollins’s shoulder?
Rollins was injured during his match against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel: Perth on October 11, 2025. F4W reported that he underwent surgery and had to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship. POST Wrestling described the injury as a torn rotator cuff and linked it to an attempted diving headbutt. Those details come from media reports; no medical documentation is cited here.
How his WrestleMania 42 return plan changed
December 2025: recovery was on track
On December 3, 2025, F4W reported that Rollins described his recovery as “on track” and said he had removed his brace. WrestleMania season was then a target, not a confirmed return date. (F4W, December 3, 2025)
February 2026: Rollins left clearance to doctors
On February 27, 2026, speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Rollins said he wanted to return by WrestleMania but that the decision depended on his doctors: “They have to tell me if I’m good to go.” His statement was an expressed goal, not confirmation that he had been medically cleared. April 2026: a scheduled match and a self-assessment
On April 16, 2026, F4W reported that Rollins was set to face GUNTHER in his first match back. Rollins said his shoulder “feels great” and estimated that it was “maybe 80-90 percent.” That percentage was his own description, not a clinical measurement or an independent medical assessment. (F4W, April 16, 2026) Wrestling Inc. also published the event-week update, attributing its transcription to ESPN. (Wrestling Inc., April 16, 2026)

WWE’s current profile says Rollins returned before WrestleMania 42 after time away and notes that he targeted The Vision, the faction he had created. The profile establishes the return period; F4W’s April 16 report identifies GUNTHER as his scheduled first opponent. These updates distinguish the confirmed return from the earlier goal of making it back by WrestleMania.
