Seiko’s Star Wars watches are a set of six limited-edition Brightz models that Seiko Watch Corporation announced in Japan on September 5, 2012, to mark the 35th anniversary of Star Wars. The planned nationwide Japanese release was October 12, 2012, and the combined run was 5,000 watches across the six designs. Those are launch facts from 2012. The announcement does not establish what Seiko or any retailer sells today, so the sections below treat the collection as a historical record rather than a current product line.
The six models and their reference numbers
The collection covers six characters. Five of them carry reference numbers that are clearly shown in the launch release. Darth Maul is named in the lineup, but the release text does not clearly show a reference number for that model, so readers should not assume one.

Because the per-model split of the 5,000 watches is not given in the release, the table shows the full range for each row rather than a figure that could be mistaken for a fact about a specific model.
Two movement groups
The six watches fall into two technical groups, and the release treats them differently.

Solar radio-controlled quartz: Darth Vader, Darth Maul, R2-D2
Three models use a solar-powered, radio-controlled quartz movement. The release does not give case or accuracy specifications for these three, so comparisons of size or timekeeping should not be drawn between them and the mechanical group.
Mechanical: Yoda, C-3PO, Stormtrooper
Three models are mechanical. They are the only models for which the release lists detailed case and movement specifications, as set out in the next section.

Specifications for the three mechanical models
Seiko lists identical case and movement specifications for Yoda (SDGC013), C-3PO (SDGC015), and Stormtrooper (SDGC011). These figures apply to those three references only:
- Case diameter: 41.7 mm
- Case thickness: 12.4 mm
- Back: screw-in, with a see-through caseback
- Movement: caliber 6R21, automatic with hand winding
- Jewels: 29
- Stated daily accuracy: +25 to −15 seconds per day
Do not apply these numbers to Darth Vader, Darth Maul, or R2-D2. The release does not provide the same measurements for them, and a listing for one of those models may show different dimensions.

Original Japanese prices and quantities
The launch recommended prices ranged from ¥126,000 to ¥141,750, and each model was produced in a run of between 500 and 1,500 pieces. These are the prices Seiko set in Japan in 2012. They are not a valuation, a resale benchmark, or an indication of what a watch would sell for now. Converting them into other currencies or into today’s money would also be misleading, because the release does not say anything about later market prices.

The launch announcement is the only primary source used here, and it is authoritative only for the original 2012 Japanese launch. It does not establish:

A limited run from 2012 means the watches are now secondhand by default, but scarcity alone does not tell a buyer what a particular watch is worth. Any current value has to come from dated, comparable sales for the same reference, which is outside what the launch material can show.

- Confirm the reference number on the caseback or in the listing, and match it to the character. Searches such as “Seiko Brightz SDGC013 Yoda” or “Seiko Star Wars Stormtrooper SDGC011” help separate the six variants, since several look alike at a glance.
- For Darth Maul, do not rely on a reference number from the 2012 release, because the release does not clearly show one. Ask the seller for documentation tied to the specific piece.
- For Yoda, C-3PO, and Stormtrooper, check that the case diameter, thickness, movement type, and see-through caseback match the specifications listed above.
- Check that the movement type matches the model. A solar quartz model listed as mechanical, or the reverse, is a reason to stop and ask questions.
- Inspect the condition, packaging, and any papers the seller includes, and note whether the photos show the actual piece.
- Read the seller’s return policy before paying, since a limited-edition watch is difficult to assess from photographs alone.
Whatever price a listing shows, it reflects the seller’s asking price on that day, not the 2012 recommended price or any official valuation.
