Sean “Diddy” Combs pleaded not guilty after a federal indictment in September 2024 charged him with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. That plea was a response to the charges, not a verdict. In July 2025, a jury acquitted Combs of racketeering and sex trafficking but found him guilty on two transportation-for-prostitution counts. The U.S. Department of Justice says he was sentenced to 50 months in prison on October 3, 2025. The sources available here do not establish later appellate or post-sentencing developments.
What did Sean Combs plead not guilty to?
On September 17, 2024, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced that Combs had been arrested and charged in a three-count federal indictment:
- Racketeering conspiracy
- Sex trafficking
- Transportation to engage in prostitution
The indictment was the government’s charging document, not a finding that the alleged conduct occurred. Prosecutors alleged that the conduct spanned more than a decade and multiple states, and described alleged use of Combs’s business resources and associates in conduct involving sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice. Those claims must be understood as allegations, not established facts. The Justice Department stated at the time: “The charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.” (U.S. Attorney’s Office announcement, September 17, 2024)
Why did he plead not guilty?
A not-guilty plea is a procedural response to criminal charges. It means the defendant contests the charges and requires the government to prove its case; it is not itself evidence of guilt or innocence, and it is not the jury’s decision. The plea did not resolve the allegations. The case proceeded to trial, where jurors considered the counts separately.

What happened at trial?
On July 2, 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, while convicting him on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution, according to the Justice Department’s case summary. The Associated Press likewise reported the acquittals on the higher-level racketeering and sex-trafficking charges. (U.S. Department of Justice case summary) (Associated Press coverage)
The distinction matters: Combs was not convicted of sex trafficking in this federal case. The jury found him guilty on two transportation-for-prostitution counts and not guilty on the sex-trafficking and racketeering counts.

What sentence did Combs receive?
The Justice Department says Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison on October 3, 2025, for the transportation-for-prostitution convictions. That is the sentence reported by DOJ; it should not be read as a calculation of how much time remains to be served. (U.S. Department of Justice, October 3, 2025)
