The record clearly links Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jennifer Lopez to one another in 1999: the Associated Press says they were together when they fled a New York nightclub shooting. It does not implicate Lopez in the shooting, and Combs was acquitted of charges related to it in 2001. The materials available here do not establish a specific, relevant connection between Combs and Usher or Justin Bieber. A celebrity association, even when documented, is not evidence of involvement in another person’s alleged conduct.

What is documented about Jennifer Lopez and the 1999 shooting?

The Associated Press timeline says Combs and Lopez were together when they fled a shooting at a New York City nightclub on December 27, 1999. Combs was arrested on gun-possession charges. The timeline reports that on March 17, 2001, he was acquitted of all charges related to the shooting. Associated Press timeline

This establishes a relationship and a chronology, not wrongdoing by Lopez. The cited account does not say she was accused of a crime in the case. Being present with Combs when they left the club does not establish that she participated in the shooting or knew about criminal conduct.

What happened in Combs’s later criminal case?

The later federal case is a separate matter from the 1999 nightclub shooting. The AP timeline records that Cassie Ventura sued Combs on November 16, 2023, alleging abuse, including beatings and rape. The suit settled the next day on undisclosed terms; Combs denied the accusations. The timeline also records a federal search in March 2024, Combs’s arrest and indictment in September 2024, the jury verdict on July 2, 2025, and his sentence on October 3, 2025. The verdict was mixed. The jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and acquitted him of racketeering and sex trafficking. The AP reports a sentence of four years and two months. It would be inaccurate to describe the verdict as a conviction for sex trafficking or racketeering.

What is established about Usher and Justin Bieber?

The materials cited for this article do not establish a specific, relevant connection between Combs and either Usher or Bieber. They also do not support describing either person as a witness, victim, participant, or knowing associate in criminal conduct. Those claims should not be inferred from a name appearing in online discussion or from presumed proximity within the entertainment industry.

Rank #2

For a claim about a particular person to be meaningful, it needs reliable, direct support and precise wording: what the person did, when it happened, and whether the source describes a documented association, an allegation, sworn testimony, or a court finding. The available record does not answer the Usher and Bieber parts of the question to that standard.

Why have celebrity-video claims resurfaced?

A 2026 defamation opinion describes litigation over statements about alleged videos involving Combs and celebrities. In that case, Combs alleged that Courtney Burgess claimed to possess videos of Combs sexually assaulting celebrities and minors, and that attorney Ariel Mitchell repeated other false statements. Those are allegations recounted in a contested defamation action; the opinion does not establish that the recordings exist or that any celebrity was victimized. Combs v. Burgess opinion

The distinction matters: a court document can report what a party alleges without finding that allegation true. Claims about recordings should not be repeated as verified evidence unless reliable reporting or a judicial finding establishes the relevant facts.

What does the recent civil-case ruling establish?

On September 18, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed Julian Sapp’s amended claims against Combs. The opinion dismissed Counts II–XV as untimely; it also dismissed Count XII for failure to plead statutory elements. The court declined supplemental jurisdiction over Count I and dismissed it without prejudice. Sapp opinion

This is a procedural disposition of claims in that case. It does not decide the truth or falsity of claims in other lawsuits, nor does it substantiate celebrity-video claims.

How to read celebrity ties without turning them into accusations

  • Documented relationship: evidence that two people were together or worked in the same setting establishes association, not culpability.
  • Allegation: a claim made in a lawsuit or by a person should be attributed to its source and not presented as a proven fact.
  • Sworn testimony: testimony is evidence given in a proceeding, but it should not be converted into a broader finding than the court made.
  • Court finding: report the specific outcome, including acquittals or dismissals, rather than collapsing distinct claims into a general label.
