These 13 takeaways separate what Ventura said from what other witnesses and exhibits reportedly showed—and from the defense’s response. They are not a claim that her testimony alone decided the case.
Who testified, and what was the setting?
Ventura, a singer and Combs’s former girlfriend, testified over several days in May 2025 during his federal criminal trial. The accounts below reflect contemporaneous reporting by the Associated Press and CBS News, not an independently checked trial transcript.

What did Ventura say about the relationship?
1. She described a relationship that changed over time
Ventura testified that the relationship began with affection and good times but later involved frequent violence and control, according to the Associated Press and CBS News. That is her account, not a finding stated by either report.
2. She said control reached into daily life
According to CBS News, Ventura testified that Combs influenced her appearance, work, living arrangements, and day-to-day choices, and that she feared his reaction if she refused. CBS quoted her saying, “Control was everything — from the way that I looked, to what I was working on that day, who I was speaking to.”

What did she say about the “freak offs”?
3. Her account involved hired sex workers and Combs watching or directing
In testimony described by AP, Ventura said the events involved male sex workers and Combs watching or directing. Reports use “freak offs” as the term for these events; descriptions of what happened here are attributed to Ventura’s testimony.
4. She described lengthy, recurring events
CBS reported Ventura estimated the events lasted 36 to 72 hours, with the longest lasting four days, and occurred almost weekly for years. These were her estimates in testimony as reported by CBS, not independently established counts.
Rank #2
5. She said she felt humiliated and disgusted
CBS reported Ventura testified that she felt humiliated and disgusted by some events and did not want to take part every time. AP quoted her saying, “The freak-offs became a job.”
6. She said fear made refusal difficult
Ventura testified that she feared Combs’s anger and the possible exposure of recordings, and that his influence over her life made it hard to refuse, according to AP and CBS.
Rank #3
7. She said the events affected her music career
CBS reported Ventura testified that she had recorded hundreds of songs and nine albums during the relationship that were never released. She said the events took time and energy from other pursuits. Those figures and that explanation are her testimony as reported by CBS, not an independently verified catalog count.
What did the jury reportedly see and hear about violence?
8. Jurors viewed hotel surveillance footage from 2016
AP reported that jurors watched surveillance footage of a Los Angeles hotel incident showing Combs strike and kick Ventura and attempt to drag her. AP also reported that Combs apologized after the footage leaked the prior year. The footage is distinct from Ventura’s descriptions of events in her testimony.
Rank #4
9. She described covering bruises after the hotel incident
CBS reported Ventura testified that she used makeup and sunglasses to cover bruises before attending a premiere after the incident. Her account of what she did afterward is testimony reported by CBS, separate from the surveillance footage.
10. She alleged Combs raped her in 2018
CBS reported Ventura testified that Combs raped her after they had broken up. Combs denied the allegation in connection with Ventura’s 2023 civil lawsuit. CBS reported that the lawsuit was settled the day after it was filed; that settlement was not a criminal-trial finding.

How did the defense respond?
11. The defense argued violence did not prove the charged crimes
AP reported that defense attorney Teny Geragos argued, “This case is about love, jealousy, infidelity and money.” The defense acknowledged Combs could be violent while contesting that he committed sex trafficking or racketeering, and argued the sexual activity was consensual. Those were defense arguments, not findings by the court.
12. The defense pointed to messages, and Ventura explained them
AP reported that the defense used messages in which Ventura made positive statements about Combs. She explained that the words did not reflect how she felt at the time. The messages and her explanation are evidence and testimony reported by AP; they do not, by themselves, resolve the dispute over consent.
What did another witness say?
13. Dawn Richard testified about alleged assaults she said she witnessed
AP reported that singer Dawn Richard testified she had seen Combs attack Ventura on multiple occasions. AP quoted Richard saying, “I was scared for her and scared to do anything.” Richard’s account was separate testimony, not a court finding.
How to distinguish testimony, exhibits, and findings
Ventura’s descriptions of the relationship, events, and their effects were testimony. The hotel surveillance video was an exhibit viewed by jurors, as reported by AP. Richard’s account was testimony from a different witness. The defense’s consent and charged-crime arguments were advocacy. The reports cited here do not turn any one of those categories into a judicial finding, and they do not establish the status of later proceedings or appeals.
