Sean Combs: The Reckoning is a four-part Netflix documentary about Sean “Diddy” Combs, his career and the allegations surrounding him. Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and directed by Alexandria Stapleton, it was released on December 2, 2025. Its account should be distinguished from the federal case: prosecutors’ indictment allegations were not all jury findings, and the jury’s verdict and sentence have specific, narrower terms.
What is Sean Combs: The Reckoning about?
Netflix describes the series as an examination of Combs and the empire he built, spanning decades of his life and career. Its stated material includes interviews with people formerly in his orbit, allegations connected with Combs and Bad Boy, and footage from the days before his indictment and arrest. That is Netflix’s description of the documentary’s scope, not a substitute for court records. Netflix Media Center and Netflix Tudum describe the series and its episodes.

Who made it, and where can you watch?
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is an executive producer, and Alexandria Stapleton is the director. Netflix lists the four-part series on its official title page. What does the federal case timeline establish?
The legal record has distinct stages: an indictment sets out charges and allegations; a jury verdict identifies what was proved to it beyond a reasonable doubt; sentencing follows the verdict. The dates and outcomes below come from official federal sources.

| Date | What happened | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| September 17, 2024 | The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced an indictment charging Combs with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. | These were allegations in the indictment, not findings of guilt. The announcement stated, “The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.” U.S. Attorney’s Office, SDNY |
| July 2, 2025 | The Department of Justice says a jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution. | This identifies the counts on which the jury returned guilty findings; it does not mean the jury convicted him of every charge in the indictment. U.S. Department of Justice case summary |
| October 3, 2025 | The same DOJ summary says Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison. | This is the sentence reported by DOJ, not a description of the indictment or the verdict. U.S. Department of Justice case summary |
The presumption-of-innocence wording belongs to the September 2024 charging announcement. The later verdict and sentence are the subsequent procedural outcomes, as reported by DOJ. The charging announcement and the case summary should be read together when describing the case’s status.
Is it a “hit piece,” or is it factual?
Those labels cannot be settled simply by naming the director or executive producer. Netflix’s description establishes the series’ stated subject matter and approach, but it does not independently establish the accuracy of every interview, interpretation, or allegation presented. Likewise, an official court outcome establishes the verdict and sentence, not whether a documentary is balanced as a work of journalism or filmmaking.

A useful way to assess a particular claim is to ask what kind of evidence supports it and how it is labeled: an interview or archival account in the series, an allegation in a charging document, or a jury finding. The federal timeline above provides the relevant distinction: the indictment contained multiple allegations, while DOJ identifies two prostitution-transportation counts as the jury’s guilty findings.
The DOJ’s July 1, 2025 verdict statement says prosecutors and law-enforcement partners prioritized a victim-centered approach. That is the government’s description of its approach, not an independent assessment of the documentary’s fairness. U.S. Department of Justice statement.

What is known about the pre-arrest footage?
Netflix confirms that the series includes footage from the days before indictment and arrest. That confirmation establishes the footage’s presence in the documentary; it does not, on its own, settle the footage’s complete chain of custody, authorization, or ownership, or establish that those questions were adjudicated in court.
